The podisphere has a lot of discussion about how the hell they get off a planet with a military blockade which is just blown up and to Tatooine in 24 hours.

That's exactly it. I'm excited to see R1 again so I can focus on what happens right after they appear. I spent too much time thinking about how little sense they made that they were there, how dumb the cameo was in the first place. Then again, when Jedha City gets destroyed, I was pulled out all over again thinking about them. Blech.

One theory I heard was they could be rebel spies And knew to get the hell outta there when they saw the military leave. Bars and cantinas are the go to places for info in all Star Wars. Over and over. Nobody wants their comic / standalone though do they?

I mean, I'm sure there are people that would love their stand alone. I'm not one of those people, though. But obviously if (as the Collider article you linked earlier implies) there are loads of fan fiction stories out there about them, then there's an audience.

I can't say if i like TFA or Rogue One better. They are two different movies attempting 2 different things. Both attempts are solid A material in my opinion.

I look forward to watching Rogue One more so i can really get to know the characters better. First impression of Bodhi was kind of meh so i dont understand the love for his character arc.

As far as the fan service goes - i dont give a shit. At worst its forgettable and doesnt detract, and I get a chuckle. At best it helps weave the entire universe together more firmly.

One thing I dont understand, and we dont need to get into it is how Rogue One did better at fan service than TFA. They both do it. They both do it for the same reasons. I think the idea of Rogue One being a completely different star wars movie is what excites some people more than another skywalker/jedi thing that TFA offers. Or some (lv, burt, mcp) just hate JJ so much....

I agree with all of it, except Bodhi being meh.

If anything, I'd say Rogue One was worse at fan service than TFA. But both excel at in most instances. But R1 had more instances that stood out as forced or awkward to me than TFA. But it's all minor complaints. Both movies are great. And both excite me more than they disappoint.

Not that I want over saturation or for SW to turn into Marvel. But I do love the idea of exploring stand alone stories AND saga films alike. Just like Marvel does solo films and then massive Avenger films. Hopefully, Star Wars (unlike Marvel) really play with tone and structure and style in those stand alone films, though. I love how different Rogue One is but I'd love to see them continue to push those differences. The Saga films, I like having a more common look/feel and continuity/theme.

Me too. Except on R2 & 3PO. Wish they'd gone the chopper route and just had them whizzing past bickering in the final shot when Antilles turns from the corridor into the cockpit on the tantive iv. Would have helped tie it up even further.

The R2/3PO cameo is the second worst one in the movie.

They have to be in there somewhere. We all know they're in every movie.


Who was the first worst cameo??

Walrus Man and that other guy from the cantina in Mos Eisley. Completely unnecessary. Takes the viewer totally out of the movie and kinda creates more problems/questions than it does offer enthusiasm or humor or whatever. Pure fan service that ads nothing. R2 and 3PO are at least... appropriate. It makes sense that they're there and we might even feel upset if we didn't see them at one point or another. Just wish their cameo had been better.

Then why is that so hard to conceive considering all the traveling R1 did in that same time period? Actually less, since it was another day before Walrus Man met Luke and Ben and got his arm chopped off.

Only insomuch as people are saying that cameo is stupid because of how they got from A to B in only a day. The cameo may be stupid, but not for that reason.
