He's just overreacting to the overly positive reactions. It's fine.

Re: Movie: Arrival (Amy Adams)
I watched this today! As I mentioned in the movies thread, I was looking forward to it for a long time, but since I never go to the movies, I avoided reading about it for months. It looked wonderful and I enjoyed the feel of the world and all of that stuff, but I was kind of "meh" on the big plot devices. I don't think it was that clever or original at all, which I would've forgiven if there was something fresh about the characters, but "dead kid with cancer drives main character" just didn't do it for me.
I wish the aliens were just humans all along.

That actually makes sense to me. I disagree, in that it worked on me, but I totally understand what you mean and why it affected you that way.Simple Torture wrote:loldurdencommatyler wrote:Simple Torture wrote:I watched this today! I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Re: Movie: Arrival (Amy Adams)
Although I think it'd be a lazy critique to say "The entire movie was too much like Contact," I think it's fair to say that that plot point was too much like Contact.tragabigzanda wrote:The only minor quibble I had was the C4 explosion scene. Totally unnecessary, felt like a studio note.
