Better than I expected it to be. Story presented some interesting philosophical/moral questions. The space visuals were nice. I'll be interested to hear your take, LV. I'm not a big fan of either actor, but they were fine in it.

I didn't see Knight of Cups. But I think Tree of Life is his most ambitious and accomplished work (even if it's not my personal favorite). To The Wonder wasn't great but it was light years better than The Thin Red Line. I didn't see Brave New World either. But I heard good things.

I hate The Thin Red Line probably more than any other major motion picture I've ever seen. Even something as minor and low budget as Manos: The Hands of Fate made me laugh, even if it wasn't supposed to. (Manos is worse than The Thin Red Line, by the way). I fucking HATE The Thin Red Line.

TTRL is probably one of the greatest movies ever made and the only truly essential Malick movie

BUT! in my defense.... a lot of why I hated that movie was expectation and the actual movie theater going experience. I have not dared revisit the thing. But it's entirely possible that I would enjoy it more now that I have a broader understanding of Malick's work AND I'm so far removed from that initial terrible experience.

I wouldn't compare them, either. I was just ranking them. They are very different films with very different objectives. I wasn't a big fan of To The Wonder, really. It's dull and veers toward lifelessness. But in it's best moments, it's exquisite. But, yeah, I wouldn't really try to compare it to TTRL beyond the fact that the same guy directed them.
