Re: First Single from #10: Mind Your Manners
You guys are delusional if you think this hasn't leaked.
WTF really cares anyway? This album is going to just get our hopes up. We'll all be excited upon first few listens bc its new PJ, then it will sink in how big of a turd it is and then we'll all go back to listening to our personal past PJ favorites

Re: First Single from #10: Mind Your Manners
I wasn't feeling the name citizen when that tracklist popped up but I'm coming round on it. My main worry with that title and now the mym artwork is that everything will be really overtly political.harmless wrote:'Tides' doesn't fit any of the themes thus far, by the looks of it. Tides / waves doesn't say suburbia and fundamentalism and guns and Republicanism to me. I'm still intrigued by the Citizen idea.stupidmop wrote:![]()
Isn't tides just a bullshit name someone here made up?
So either I missed something or the media still haven't been told the actual name and are still just getting shit from the internet.
Though I guess that could be interesting, for the album to have a clear message or focus......basically I don't know what I want
I'm not expecting a title/tracklist today, I've decided to expect the least at every juncture to avoid any disappointment.

WTF cares about 'sense'? Sense is boring and depressing. I'm going to like what I like and dislike what I dislike about this album, but I've got good reason (I think) to expect it to be more my thing than Backspacer. But I liked Backspacer, and half of S/T, and I loved Riot Act. So PJ still have my heart, even if I get really pissed off with that ol' battleaxe occasionally.nightmareblack0206 wrote:Nooooooo you were one of few that made sense. ...

I agree to an extent. I LOVED S/T yet wanna puke when I even see artwork to BS. And I been buying their albums on release day since Vitalogy (their greatest album IMHO)

Given human psychology a generally upbeat attitude means you are a lot more likely to enjoy the first few listens anyway. The context the board provides is going to help determine whether or not you focus on the things you really like or get fixated on the things you don't to the point that they seem bigger than what's good. That's not to say that people are molded entirely by the context in which they listen (they're not) but to think that they're totally unaffected is probably a bit naive.
In the end you'll still evaluate the album based on its strengths and weaknesses, but its the context that determines which way you lean in the border cases.
So I'd rather just do myself a favor and go in wanting to and expecting to enjoy it. I don't get new albums from my favorite band very often, and so I might as well have fun with it.

Personally I think the downfall of Pearl Jam has been greatly exaggerated. Someone posted somewhere touching the subject (maybe it was you harmless) but I think my age has a big part in it. I don't tie music in to my life nearly as much as I used to so no matter how good it is I don't think a cd will ever be as impact full as it would have been as a teenager. Songs and CDs still help with moments here and there but as a whole they hit far less. That along with my musical tastes, world views, general awareness and knowledge expanding I don't look to pearl jam to be that force any more.
There's the dog. You can't fake that stuff. Confess with your mouth.
