After his tax cut gets passed some in the GOP may wonder if they can get the rest of their agenda passed better without his interference. Trump seems to be making enemies of pharma and healthcare industries, which are powerful lobbies. He also has pissed-off every major auto manufacturer. He has also pissed-on the U.S. intelligence community. Basically, he has two bridges remaining: 1) Financial Industry, and 2) Energy/military industrial complex. He'll probably leave the Banks alone. But the moment he headfakes on military industrial agenda that he is supposed to pass at their instruction, he will probably end up impeached or on an inner tube out to sea.

Later, I used an intermediary to pass some questions to active duty CIA officers dealing with the case file - they would not speak to me directly. I got a message back that there was "more than one tape", "audio and video", on "more than one date", in "more than one place" - in the Ritz-Carlton in Moscow and also in St Petersburg - and that the material was "of a sexual nature".

I think that part of it, that Russian intelligence would try to find info on Trump, is completely believable. We're talking about an immensely popular figure who floated running for president in 2012 and was the chief advocate of a call for his birth certificate that sucked in a significant portion of the Republican party. We bugged the German chancellor's phone; I think it's awfully optimistic of Putin's government to say they wouldn't try to keep tabs on a prominent American mogul and potential presidential candidate, however much a longshot he may have seemed. I feel like the presentation of the info, and the way it's written, sent up way more of a red flag than the content.

I also think this schism between Trump and the intelligence community is pretty much DOA post-inauguration. Trump is the furthest thing from a privacy advocate, and he doesn't seem to have any problem with the IC's findings besides when they tell him something about Russia that hurts his feelings. A president with an authoritarian streak like Trump's will find a lot to love fairly quickly.

To play along here, what benefit would the CIA derive from hiding this? What would be their endgame? I can see a very clear reason why Russia would want this be "news", but I'm not so clear on what would motivate our Intel agencies to cover this up if they believed it to be real.
