I don't think so at all. It's Anakin proving himself. His whole future is on the line. There's a lot at stake.

In the universe, yes. As tension in the film? None. Therefore it added nothing.

And shoe little Anni had the force n all. I. Ah think of a million cooler ways to do that in almost sinister ways to make him look Force powerful n all that. But here we are

Well, I disagree with that. I think there's a lot of tension in the sequence. Lucas directed the action set-pieces very skillfully in TPM, and I think the result is quite visceral.

The dialogue was awful, making it feel like fuckin NASCAR was embarrassing (with the announcers and their awful dialogue), and it looked like a video game.

Awful.

As a plot device, yes. It works on that level. That's fair enough. I probably overstated/misspoke my position. Really, I was speaking more to necessity. There are plenty of other ways to get the same point across that would have been more intricate, interesting, and perhaps vital to the overall story/theme. Lucas seemed to want to THIS specific scene. It's like the rest of the movie was written around this unnecessary spectacle. Again, it's beautiful, I just don't think it adds as much to the story or the experience as it Lucas thinks it does.

The more the lore expands around them, the less of an issue I have with the prequel films. I don't think anything can make them "good" movies but their flaws are less irritating as the world gets fleshed out in The Clone Wars and Rebels and the novels, etc.

That just makes the clone wars and rebels good. I dont see how this makes the prequels less awful. I feel it makes them even worse that they can do in 25 minute cartoons what lucas couldn't attain with an endless budget and big studio movie time

Sorry, I have to pee and I would like a cocktail.

Can you come with a disclaimer when you are posting on RM via a coke binge?

In the long distant past. Back on the old board. Way back actually. When we had like one all purpose Star Wars thread that got maybe 1 post a year. Not from me
