Granting that some of us are trying to form opinions based on a horrible recording, my basic feeling is this: it's very aggressive, which could be a good thing, but it lacks a kind of moodiness that I sense in really good Pearl Jam songs. For example, an immediate aggressive/aggressive and moody comparison that springs to mind is "Whipping" vs. "Last Exit."

My fear is that the missing je ne sais quoi coupled with some subpar, unsubtle lyrics will ultimately make this a letdown for me.
I don't think I'll be 'let down', because I wasn't expecting more. But I hear you and agree. The more you listen the more generic it gets.

All the songs which sound better faster are played at the right tempo live. All the songs that sound shit when played faster are played faster.

Not a bad point at all. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping a better recording provides more insight and reveal some of that moodiness. Well put.
I'd really like to hear the room for lack of a better term in the production again. That natural tone and reverb has been missing in their last few records.

Listening multiple times on headphones, while you definitely can't hear much more detail, but I think it's clear this is a much more traditional PJ song that we were missing last album. This is more like a rock track from S/T.

The recording has the guitars so fucked up they sound like The Chemicals Between Us.

Better just to wait.

I'm pretty sure of two things:

1) I'll dig it. Or at least, tonight I'm going to have fun trying to figure out whether I dig it enough.

2) It will be neither the best song on the album, nor the worst. I think we all know what kind of space it will occupy on the record.

I'm mostly just saying things now. This song is making me bi-polar. One second it's shit and the next it's totally STBC type rad.

I reckon it'll be better than Comatose, if the lyrics can rise to it (not that there's far to rise, but there's also Supersonic).

I don't think it would be hard to be better than Comatose. This certainly seems to have it beat by a good margin. Like at least this much _________. Maybe even ________________________________
