I agree with most of what you say here, but disagree that the archaic nature of 'Vitalogy' is a problem. The whole concept of Vitalogy (and it is a concept album), around that medical book, is probably the most imaginative thing they've done imo. If it's a little obscure and requires proper listening, all the better.

Totally agree. Granted, I was a teenager when Vitalogy came out, and a lot more gosh-wow about unusual CD presentations, but I found myself lost in the Vitalogy "experience" more so than any of their other albums, even if the music itself didn't end up being my favorite.
