What kind of setup are you using so all of your consoles are hooked up and ready to play at the same time? Some kind of switch?CopperTom wrote:I guess you aren't all bad after allLoathedVermin72 wrote:Ugh, no. I hate digital.CopperTom wrote:I've always assumed you were a digital guy, not a physical guy..

Re: Home Theater Discussion
I have a terribly old toshiba tv and a ps3. The speakers on my TV are pretty blown out at this point. So watching David Lynch movies become almost like psychological warfare experiments.

Joey, you should not be using your TV's speakers. Come on, bro.

I know. But who can afford anything else? Also, how does anybody hook anything up?

It's not that expensive, really? And I LOVE hooking up home theater equipment. Just invite me over and I'll do it.durdencommatyler wrote:I know. But who can afford anything else? Also, how does anybody hook anything up?
By the way, here's my setup:

4 switches. 2 component. 2 composite / S video. That TV has 6 inputs. In my living room I have a HDMI switch.LoathedVermin72 wrote:What kind of setup are you using so all of your consoles are hooked up and ready to play at the same time? That looks beautiful, Verm! Very handsome setup, indeed. I'm totally jealous.

Slick! I should probably invest in an HDMI switch. My TV has 3 inputs and it's not cutting it.CopperTom wrote:4 switches. 2 component. 2 composite / S video. That TV has 6 inputs. Re: Home Theater Discussion
I mean, the soundbar you referenced earlier is $700. That alone is a lot of fucking money. And that doesn't include the TV, any receiver you might need, cables, any other speakers, etc. I don't know, man. It's all about priorities, I guess. But it's hard for me to justify a couple thousand dollars just watch Parks and Rec reruns.LoathedVermin72 wrote:It's not that expensive, really?durdencommatyler wrote:I know. Re: Home Theater Discussion
I'm curious if the HDMI switch I have will work with 4k hdr. 4k hdr recommends a 18gb/s HDMI cable. I ordered some new cables, but i'm not sure if the switch itself will cause a bottleneck.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Slick! I should probably invest in an HDMI switch. Some cursory searching reveals that there are such things as "high-speed HDMI switches," so I imagine the older one you have probably won't be able to handle the signal.

I need somebody to go shopping for this stuff with me AND hook it up for me. I can provide pizza, beer/soda, and lodging for a limited time. Who's in?

I looked the other day, but none listed the specific speed. I'll look again when I get home.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Some cursory searching reveals that there are such things as "high-speed HDMI switches," so I imagine the older one you have probably won't be able to handle the signal.

Some list 4k compatibility, none list HDR. For now, I'll hook my lone 4K HDR source directly into the TV.CopperTom wrote:I looked the other day, but none listed the specific speed. Yeah, I did some digging too, and even some of the 4K ones I found only had a speed of about 10 instead of 18, which I wouldn't trust.CopperTom wrote:Some list 4k compatibility, none list HDR. Re: Home Theater Discussion
My AV receiver has shat itself - lost sound and network connection. Apparently an issue that Onkyo is aware of and they have a customer care program in place till the end of next year to fix this, but currently in the process of seeing if this extends to NZ
Currently everything is running through my TV speakers - and can't play vinyl
