It kinda bugs me how crucified Mel Gibson was for basically nothing. He said some ridiculous things about Jews and he was essentially blacklisted for a decade? I mean, yikes. The DUI part of that incident was honestly a bigger deal.

(lol, I just looked at his wikipedia page and I guess it doesn't help that halfway through this blacklisting, he beat up his girlfriend and used the n-word in a leaked tape. Guy's an alcoholic, what are you gonna do?)
Im sure he saw Ghostbusters and realized he was wrong.

Allied.

Well, it should have been a great movie, and its barely fine. I mean, Zemeckis is great as usual, and there are two great scenes here, Pitt is good, Cotillard not so much...the sound design is terrific, but the plot is just...meh...it all falls apart at the end with a very bored ending.

Watching Dolan's Cadillac and it's just terrible. It's an interesting short story but not much of a premise for a 90 minute movie. Also the actors are phoning it in. They're not great shakes but I've seen Christian Slater act before and it's not what he's doing here.
Dolan's Cadillac is a 2009 crime film starring Wes Bentley, Christian Slater and Emmanuelle Vaugier.

The idea of people singing and dancing in Trump's America?!

The main thing I think is bullshit about La La Land is
Spoiler: show
how Gosling's character is an insufferable prick, yet every single major moment of Emma Stone's character's arc is driven by him or centered around him. He is the one who introduces her to jazz, he is the one who shows her Rebel Without a Cause EVEN THOUGH SHE IS AN ACTRESS AND A MOVIE BUFF, he is the one who encourages her to put on the one-woman play (which we never get to see), he is the one who gets the call from the casting agent, he is the one who goes looking for her and talks her into going to the audition. At the end of the movie, we see his dream realized; we see his club, and him playing in it, and being the host he always wanted to be, and how realized he is. But we don't see her act; just that she's successful and married and has a kid, through which we are to infer that she has accomplished her dreams too. The main commentary on their relationship -- that beautiful melody that reoccurs throughout -- is his, and it's his performance of it that bookends their history together. It feels lopsided.
I like the movie's confidence and direction and cinematography, there's a lot of beauty there. The leads do a great job at everything that's not singing and dancing (Gosling tap dances like an awkward idiot); the songs are nice enough and the ending resonates very strongly. But the more I think about it, the less some aspects sit right with me.

Attack on titan.
Some anime series. Thought it was a film.
Five minutes in and it looks amazing.

Fences - it was pretty good, really well acted - but boy did it feel longer than it's 140 minute running time

So you watched the opening credits, that's good.

The opening/closing credits are probably 20% of the show, if not more. It's insane.

Stumbled across an interesting movie on Netflix that I'd never heard of before: Last Knights. It stars Clive Owen and Morgan Freeman, and is kind of hard to explain. The best I can come up with is that it's a samurai flick that takes place in a post-racial dystopia 1000 years ago in the future. Really, it's just a samurai movie with a multi-ethnic cast and a white leading man, but whatever. Apparently, there was no U.S. theatrical release.
It's not stupendous or anything, but it's better than its 14% on Rotten Tomatoes, for sure. Worth a look. Good movie for a night of easy, action viewing.
It's also just perfectly in my wheelhouse: a samurai movie starring Clive Owen is the stuff of dreams for me.

I'm spending Trump's Inauguration Day going to see xXx: The Return of Xander Cage. Seems somehow appropriate.
