10, without hesitation or shame. Like most people here, I much prefer the first half of their career, but I've followed the whole damn thing, 39 times from a spot at a show. I never expected them to maintain the urgency to create, nor did I expect a band would be the most important part of my life forever.

If anything disappoints me after all these years, it's that I don't really like Eddie. He came out of nowhere as this charismatic enigma who wrote beautiful lyrics and sang ferociously, but couldn't make eye contact. Now he's a name dropper who hangs out with Bill Maher, spouts off about shit incoherently, and seems more like the head of a business than the leader of a band. If I could meet him, I don't think I would.

Ed is a happy old rockstar drunk now. Goddammit he's earned that right. Everything they did for the first 10-16 years of their career has earned them the right to be whatever they want now. My disappointments stem from me just wanting more.

They are an easy 10 for me.

Oh, I agree that he's earned the right to be who he wants. I just don't like that person much. My ten club number used to get me in the front row at shows. I don't mind that other people are in front of me now, but it annoys me that it's literally John McEnroe and Chris Chelios.

I agree that Eddie is way, way more annoying than he once was.

This is ridiculously reductive. The stuff he does for charity alone (that we hear about) is pretty fucking impressive. And rarely (if ever) do you hear people who have actually met him or know him call him an asshole. You're mostly reacting to the Ted Dibiase Scrooge McDuck firepole caricature that bored dudes on RM have talked each other into.

I wouldn't conflate your disappointment in his recent creative output with the fact that he occasionally hobnobs with banal celebs. Correlation is not necessarily causation. But if you want to blame Bill Maher for "Future Days", it's as good a theory as any.

Plus, he's always spouted off about shit incoherently.

 perfect picture!

I agree what he does for charity is great. He also seems like a doting father. He is often very endearing and funny, too. On the whole, though, he doesn't seem like someone I'd enjoy spending time with. It doesn't matter, of course, but as I said previously, before he came out of his shell, all we had were the songs and a few guarded interviews. Now he's out there, and he seems like he'd be kind of an asshole if you didn't agree with all of his opinions.

As usual, I'm team evenslow. However, I do agree with daft that I'm not sure I'd actually want to meet Eddie. But that has much more to do with me and my own shit than with Ed himself.

After meeting Mike it would be all downhill for me so I have no desire to meet the other members now. Except maybe Matt.
