The 89th Academy Awards

I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I'm pleasantly surprised Hacksaw got a nom.

Arrival: Meh. Overrated.
Fences: Nope.
Hacksaw: Good, but a bit of a letdown.
Hell or High Water: Half excellent, half garbage. Overall, mediocre.
Hidden Figures: Looking forward to seeing it.
La La Land: Nope.
Lion: I know almost nothing about this.
Manchester by the Sea: This movie is laughable dogshit.
Moonlight: Nope.

I love the shit out of La La Land. But there are at least two movies on that list that are better. So, I'll actually be bummed if it wins.

The Best Original Screenplay category this year is the most interesting to me.

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Hell or High Water
La La Land
The Lobster
Manchester by the Sea
20th Century Women

GODDAMN! That's some fierce competition. Love seeing a category like this, where I will be genuinely thrilled to see any of them take home the statue. All worthy nominees.*

*I haven't seen Manchester but Lonergan is a great writer, so I imagine this is up to standard; I have seen all the others and loved all of those screenplays

That OJ doc is outstanding. But it's the only film in the Best Doc category that I've seen. I Am Not Your Negro and 13th have both gotten tremendous buzz. I'd like to see those. I haven't heard of the others.

Also, really glad to see Denis Villeneuve get the Best Director nod. I was afraid he wouldn't and I think he really deserves to be recognized for his stellar work on Arrival.

Here are some that I'd LIKE to see win. My picks, not necessarily what I think WILL win:

BEST PICTURE
Moonlight

BEST DIRECTOR
Denis Villeneuve, Arrival

BEST ACTOR
Ryan Gosling, La La Land
- his is the only performance in this category that I've seen :|

BEST ACTRESS
Natalie Portman, Jackie
- Annette Bening's absence from this list is inexcusable; she should have been nominated and won

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
Mahershala Ali, Moonlight

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Naomie Harris, Moonlight
- Again, only nominee I've seen

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Hell or High Water
La La Land
The Lobster
Manchester by the Sea
20th Century Women

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
Arrival

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY
Arrival

BEST FILM EDITING
Moonlight

BEST VISUAL EFFECTS
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN
Arrival

BEST COSTUME DESIGN
Jackie

BEST MAKEUP & HAIRSTYLING
Star Trek Beyond

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE
La La Land

BEST ORIGINAL SONG
“City of Stars,” La La Land

BEST SOUND EDITING
Arrival

BEST SOUND MIXING
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE
N/A - haven't seen any of these

BEST DOCUMENTARY
O.J.: Made in America

I haven't seen any of the films in the remaining categories, so I'm leaving those off.
