So there will 100% be a crawl. Should be.... interesting?

Me too. I was just being snarky.tragabigzanda wrote:I don't know that this will conflict with the "we're picking up right where we left off" statements they've made. They could literally open on Luke and Rey; or they could open somewhere else and then go to Luke and Rey. I took those statements to be more of a reference to the plotline (unlike, say, ROJ which opens some time after the ending of ESB).durdencommatyler wrote:So there will 100% be a crawl. But a lack of much time passing does sort of make the crawl a bit more pointless. Even if it doesn't pick up literally immediately the next second after TFA. If not much time (less than a week) what's there to catch us up on? I mean, I get it. Again, I'm being a bit bratty. But still...

Crawl is far from pointless. It will give you the state of play for each other main faction/character in the story.

Lotta people complaining saying they should get rid of the crawl. Crazy talk. It makes it special. Take the crawl away and it's just another movie. It's integral to everything Star Wars is. Can't even imagine a saga film without it.

That's what I was going fordimejinky99 wrote:You nailed the pulpy tone anyways
On the subject of prologues, I really like how consistently the newsreels that open TCW stick to a slightly outlandish one word or phrase exclamation before going into it, like the "War!" crawl that opens ROTS. Don't ask me why.

Yeah, it works so well on that show. I imagine TLJ's crawl will have a strikingly similar feel.E.H. Ruddock wrote:That is one of my favorite things about TCWwashing machine wrote:That's what I was going fordimejinky99 wrote:You nailed the pulpy tone anyways

The WWII war voice doing the bit at the start is a lot of fun actually. Kids seem to love it and it catches them up without them having to read it I guess.

It also motivates children to learn how to read.dimejinky99 wrote:Lotta people complaining saying they should get rid of the crawl. Crazy talk. It makes it special. Take the crawl away and it's just another movie. It's integral to everything Star Wars is. Can't even imagine a saga film without it.

Funny cos it's just been pointed out to me that TFA didn't have the episode VIII in any of the marketing or in the crawl But Rian seems to be using it in the crawl for VIII
*juat checked. Episode VII is in the crawl.
