Tarkin was pretty good. Starting Catalyst soon.

Glad you enjoyed it.
I'd recommend lords of the Sith after Tarkin TBH.
Catalyst kinda isn't as enjoyable as either above.

I'm not the biggest fan of the author's style of writing. Something about it just seems very technical.dimejinky99 wrote:Monkey_Driven wrote:Tarkin was pretty good. Starting Catalyst soon.

Man you really shouldn't read Catalyst then. It's detailed but kinda wooden by comparison

I'll give it a whirl. It's from the library so there's no pressure to love it or anything.dimejinky99 wrote:Man you really shouldn't read Catalyst then. It's detailed but kinda wooden by comparison

I'm about halfway done with Tarkin. There are a few clone war cartoon references in there, that I recently watched, so it's neat to now read about it in the book.

I didn't watch much of the cartoon so those references were lost on me.darth_vedder wrote:I'm about halfway done with Tarkin. There are a few clone war cartoon references in there, that I recently watched, so it's neat to now read about it in the book.

Yeah, I was like "whoa" spoiler alert with Ahsoka!" Had I not just watched the Citadel episodes, would have never known that stuff was in CW. I saw Tarkin for the first time in those episodes, so that was really nice to see. One of my gripes against the prequels is that Tarkin did not play a part. This book makes it clear he and Palpatine were on close terms during the time of the prequels and even before. Some of that should have made it to film.Monkey_Driven wrote:I didn't watch much of the cartoon so those references were lost on me.darth_vedder wrote:I'm about halfway done with Tarkin. Anyway, there is another thread for me to bitch about the prequels. The references though are nice and between TCW and Tarkin, his backstory is coming together nicely. If they want to milk Vader more, I wouldn't be surprised to see this turn into a stand alone. An Empire POV movie could be pretty cool to see.

It didn't make the film because it hadn't been thought of yet.darth_vedder wrote:Yeah, I was like "whoa" spoiler alert with Ahsoka!" Re: Star Wars new canon books & timeline
That's not entirely true. ANH establishes that Tarkin is in charge of the Death Star, and even has some rank or equality with Vader. We even see him for like 2 seconds at the end of ROTS. Palpatine would not give that role to someone he didn't trust and have a relationship with. Therefore, I think it's a flaw of the prequels that there was not some background info and more character development with Tarkin. He should have had more scenes with Anakin and Palps (other that 2 seconds in ROTS) in those god awful films.Monkey_Driven wrote:It didn't make the film because it hadn't been thought of yet.darth_vedder wrote:Yeah, I was like "whoa" spoiler alert with Ahsoka!" Sure, the very basic outline was there, but would you trust Lucas to fill in that story?darth_vedder wrote:That's not entirely true. Ah cool. That's good. You should try bloodline next. It's great for explaining the state of play post ROTJ pre TFA
