I... I'm not sure that's true, though.

We all got made at him for being a racist, misogynistic, lunatic asshole. But he's been active in Hollywood the entire time. He hasn't directed in a decade. But I'm not sure that's a blacklisting issue. Maybe it is. I really don't know. Just seems like he's been trying to find his next thing. He found it. And everyone agrees he's a great director. Seems weird that people are surprised that's being recognized. *shrug*
My assumption was that enough of the bankrolling for movies comes from Jewish people, so that he was probably having a tough time getting investors to support any movies he wanted to make. Was The Beaver the first thing he did after his rough patch?
He directed Apocalypto in 2006. His drunk driving incident was that same year. His domestic violence issue was in 2010. He appeared in the film Edge of Darkness that same year, 2010.
So Apocalypto was bankrolled before his meltdown. I had completely forgotten about Edge of Darkness.
Yep.

But keep in mind there was almost a decade between Braveheart and Passion, too. It's not like Mel was directing a shit ton and then had his melt down and then it just dried up.

I think those personal problems affected him and his career to an extent. But I don't think there's much in the way of blacklisting. But, what the fuck do I know? I'm all the way over here, far from all of that stuff.

i like him and all, but i still don't consider him a-list
I've always been fuzzy on how these things are defined, Len.
a-list:

tom cruise
channing tatum
bruce willis
george pitt
ben damon
You're right, Lenny. That is a list.

I'm sure La La Land will win because Hollywood loooooves a movie about Hollywood. It's the new version of The Artist.

funny, recent side note..so the pier scene as I told you is our pier. Our city council is trying to pass a bill to keep the old lampposts and lights that were used in the movie. they're not original lights but were added to the movie and look better than what we have..anyway, they want to set aside 250K to have hollywood put them back up permanently..

Sort of makes the whole "liberal media echo chamber" thing even more sad, like they can't wait to pat themselves on the back for watching a movie starring African Americans.
hello welcome to hollywood liberalism, is this your first time dining with us this evening?
