I think it just comes down to the properties they offer. Do you care enough about Zelda and Mario to get the latest console? I personally do not (though if I had a little more money, I'd be all over this). Nintendo has built a system that will support their legacy titles for a few years. It's a bit like Apple products -- there are PCs out there that are stronger and more affordable, but it's a different ecosystem.

Doom's singleplayer was hella fun, old school in the right ways, and with an awesome play style - the glory kills mechanic forces you not to pussyfoot around taking cover but to wade right in.

Agreed. I have no idea what the financials are in the console vs. software business, but I bet if they brought their titles to other platforms they'd make a killing. Maybe the ios Mario game is them dipping their toes in the water?

Trash is harsh but I'm not going to be objective on a console's appeal. I'm well aware of Nintendo's proficiency with selling a console which is a large part of my issue. It's clear they're selling well above market value. I can kind of see going with the shitty resolution and below average graphics but dude that data storage in 2017 is absurd. No excuse. Nintendo is just cutting corners for profit. Games routinely take up 15 to 20 gigs now.

I have my concerns about the Switch's long term viability, but it has little to do with the hardware/price itself.
I'm excited for it, but then I was excited for the Vita as well.
Jeff's (from Giant Bomb) impressions don't fill me with hope but then I'm still enjoying Super Mario 3d World with my family so I'm not exactly 'hardcore' anymore.
