Their songs are always ¨current¨ because they talk about politics...and there is always going to be a problem in the world. It may seem their are current for the US now because of Trump, but kinda the same happened with bush.

I guess, but that dropped-D rap-rock thing is going to sound like the '90's no matter how relevant his lyrics are.

Their songs are, sadly, still relevant as social commentary. A song like "Down Rodeo" still speaks to societal norms and divisions to a lot of people, 20 years later. "People of the Sun", while originally about the Zapatista movement, could easily hold water in today's climate of anti-Hispanic, let's build a wall American mentality. "Sleep Now in the Fire"... still incredibly relevant. Hell, they had an Occupy Wall Street video for that song 11 years before the actual movement, and something that's still happening today!

To me, their first album is their sonically most dated. Obviously, it's the oldest. But I think the second and third still hold their ground in today's rock scene. But maybe that's bc today's rock scene has become so bland and watered down, Rage still feels like it's something different in comparison.

We (I'm assuming most of us) lived through RATM, so of course it's going to sound dated. It's attached to other scenes, other memories. But to a 13 or 14 year old kid who doesn't know who Korn, or Limp Bizkit, or even the Beastie Boys are, then Rage probably sounds extremely fresh.

We had some really good conversation in the RATM thread about the band's righteous anger and shit like that last year when it seemed like a reunion was happening but it turned into Prophets of Rage.

Yeah, i remember that one. Their lyrics and stuff seemed juvenile to me, but after that thread i blasted their albums pretty much non stop.

Zack doesn't have shit on Cornell's lyrics

Exhibit A from Audioslave's Exploder

There was a man who had a face
That looked a lot like me
I saw him in the mirror and
I fought him in the street
And when he turned away
I shot him in the head
Then I came to realize
I had killed mySEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELF
