I think Watch Dogs 2 might be my favorite open world game since Red Dead.

I still have no idea how those games work. Like, how does hacking play a role in the game? What sorts of things can you hack, and how much leeway do you have with their function once they are hacked? Are the hacking actions fairly on-rails with regard to the narrative, or is it a real free for all?

Re: The all inclusive video game thread
Most of the missions involve hacking a computer, mainframe, electrical box, etc. They are usually past doors or obstacles that require light puzzle solving skills. The hacking just involves getting close to the item and hitting one button. You can drive a small RV car or drone to hack and survey areas including driving in vents or flying over obstacles. You can also hack vehicles to drive in different directions, people for money or to see their phone conversations, stop lights, and manhole covers to explode. There is a good amount of variety in terms of the hacking so it doesn't feel repetitive. Lots of ways to approach a mission.tragabigzanda wrote:I still have no idea how those games work. The game is built to play with stealth. You can go guns a blazin' but you will die pretty quickly. The tone of the game is light and it satirizes Bay Area culture, hacking cultures, and Big Brother fears. The world is fun to explore. The main and side missions are clearly labeled and the whole map is available right away.

I really liked the first one, and I love what I've played of the second one. I just haven't had time to play it in a while. I think the first one took too much crap because it got hyped up so much. It didn't live up to the hype, but it was still a good game.Monkey_Driven wrote:I think Watch Dogs 2 might be my favorite open world game since Red Dead.

I agree about the first one. Very good gameplay, but bland main character and too much hype. This one has fixed many, if not all, of the the first installment's missteps.scrub12 wrote:I really liked the first one, and I love what I've played of the second one. Been playing Solitairica after hearing the guys on the Giant Bombcast talk about it so much and it's really good. Like, I'm not even mad I paid $4 for it.

Well, on Android it's "free" but you get half gold after fights unless you constantly watch videos. So I paid the $3.99 and it's been fine. IOS it isn't an option, you just have to pay the $3.99. So maybe go Android (if you can) to get a 'demo' feel for it.
Basically, it's like solitaire in that if you have a 4, you can kill the enemies 3 or 4 card. You can also go back and forth so if you have a lot of two cards, say 3, 4, 3, 4, 3, 4, you can just go back and forth. You also have attacks, regain health, armor, buy spells and items, and even upgrade the deck. For example the warrior deck (all I have right now) you can upgrade the A, K, and Q cards so that every time they pop up you get a bonus.
The game resets every time you die so you lose all gold and upgrades so I guess it's kind of like Spelunky? The deck upgrades are permanent though.

Picked it up yesterday. It's been awesome so far. It has some Bloodborne/Dark Souls influences from the way multiplayer works and the way you level up. It even has some Diablo influences with the huge loot drops. So much loot. The combat is great though. Much faster and with a lot more details. It's a bit of a learning curve.

Yeah, so far it is. I think once I get the combat down it will be easier. The boss battles are super tough. I definitely had to summon in another bro to help with the one boss I've fought so far. I do like the co-op better in this.Monkey_Driven wrote:Is it as difficult as a Souls/Bloodborne?jwfocker wrote:Monkey_Driven wrote:Just started reading about it, akin to Bloodborne? Good, good. I was never a big fan of the co-op in Dark Souls. Would you say the combat speed is similar to Bloodborne? Dark Souls is too slow paced for me.jwfocker wrote:Yeah, so far it is. I'd say it's noticeably faster than Bloodborne. Plus, you level up each weapon style and unlock combos the more you use each weapon type. Throw in multiple weapon stances and magic and ninja skills to develop and man it's complex.

Neato, I think I'll pick it up after Horizon, Breath of the Wild, and Mass Effect, so like in June. This year is shaping up to be one of the best years ever in gaming with these major (and minor) releases.jwfocker wrote:I'd say it's noticeably faster than Bloodborne. Yep. I wasn't sure what to get first. It basically came down to the fact that Nioh came out first. So many great games which is perfect for me because I need something to bury myself in.
