I kinda feel like this is exactly what he was talking about in that interview. He has to continue to let Finn be Finn and work with what has already been established about his character and how he talks, etc, but he knows he can't be this stupid again.E.H. This movie is going to be radical.

And I do think the "droid please" this is kinda lame. But it's not the worst thing in the world. The more modern dialogue touches in TFA didn't bother me at all.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017)
Yeah, same. I chuckled but it's odd and corny and played out by the second viewing. To dime's point, it's easy for these things to get dated and stale really quickly. Which is why Rian's smart to try to avoid too much of that kind of thing. But, again, it's not something that's going to ruin the movie for me.Strat wrote:I get why someone doesnt like it. 'You can write this shit. You can't say it'
That should be the template for all Star Wars. Modern idioms and even street speak has no place in star wars

Plus it's basically him saying bitch please. An expression of exasperation that really only means anything in certain parts of western culture, sure, but already sounds out of place now.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017)
It all depends on the character and what's consistent for that character.
Probably the single worst line of dialogue in any non-OT film is in Rogue One. There's nothing modern or "street" about the line. But it doesn't fit the character and throws a brick into the scene and the momentum of the film.
Meanwhile, Finn, yelling more modern dialogue really doesn't bother me because it fits him and what we know about him so far.

The thing is, this takes place "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away". So if it is in our past, this kind of colloquialism has not yet been invented.

You've never been to a galaxy far far away and you absolutely no idea how they speak. Maybe their language is far more advanced then us at this point in time.E.H.
