Well...this is the year of the 365 movie challenge for me and so far I'm up to 31 movies. Granted, I have a few things going for me:

a) lots of snow days two weeks ago so I could watch two movies a day
b) I rent the movies from the library and encode them to a portable format for my Vita and I watch them at 1.5 or even 2x speed so I can watch a movie in roughly half the time (no they don't sound like the chipmunks)
c) commutes and traffic = at least two hours a day for movies
d) hour lunch
e) watch a little here and there while working on things that don't require a lot of attention

I listen to some podcasts at 1.2x or 1.3x, but watching a movie at increased speed is a bad idea. Conscious decisions were made about pacing, timing, and editing that you're just disregarding. You're missing a lot of what makes a movie a movie.

Yeah, and I'm watching horrible movies when I do it. I mean, Enemy Mine?

If I'm watching a movie at home it's one I want to see and I watch it normal speed. If I'm commuting, it's going to be something I don't have to pay much attention to nuance to like Spy or a Marvel movie. IDGAF about nuance in my comic movies and I'm not a big enough nerd to care about the little Easter eggs.

Alright, you got me: I picked the first one on my list that came to mind. How about The Impossible?

I was surprised to see that Chappy didn't win an award for his acting, that took some balls and commitment.

Then why bother watching at all?

It's a meta question that I don't feel like I have a comfortable answer for.

But to directly address what I said:
a) lots of snow days two weeks ago so I could watch two movies a day
b) I rent the movies from the library and encode them to a portable format for my Vita and I watch them at 1.5 or even 2x speed so I can watch a movie in roughly half the time (no they don't sound like the chipmunks)
c) commutes and traffic = at least two hours a day for movies
d) hour lunch
e) watch a little here and there while working on things that don't require a lot of attention
A) what's wrong with watching two movies a day?
B) I'm mostly talking movies that I've already seen before so...?
C) what's wrong with watching a movie during the commute?
D) what's wrong with watching a movie during lunch?
E) Ok. I give you this one. However I'm not watching Amistad, I'm watching Ant-Man or something similar. Movies that are 'background' movies where you know what's going on no matter where you tune in or out.

And outside of those instances I'm watching movies with my wife or son or both. You'd think I took a shit on a film reel before I watch a movie or something.

Guys, just quit everything and see The Hollow Point.

After that, In A Valley Of Violence....and then, Train To Busan.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
