I don't have a dog in this fight. I'm sure there's plenty of room for both of these guys and their creative output. I've never seen Maron. But I think Louie is one of the absolute best shows in history of television. It's goddamn genius. If Maron is even half as good, it's got to be an amazing show.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I did not, but I am familiar with it. Different animals. Maron's show is an extension of his podcast. He plays a slightly fictionalized version of himself. The stories are fairly conventional in their delivery. There's nothing interesting about the directing. The editing is downright amateurish at times. It's not a bad show; it certainly has its charms, particularly season 4. But it's a far cry from Louise fully-realized vision.

Cool. I'll give it a go one of these days.
