I was wrong. It's not great, but it's Shyamalan's best since Signs. The trailers make it look totally ridiculous but it works in its oddball way.wease wrote:AgreedLoathedVermin72 wrote:This looks godawful

I almost posted that it reminded me of Signs, or that it was a return to that form, but then I didn't.

It definitely felt like a return to form stylistically. One thing I always appreciated about Shyamalan was his classical skill as a director, and that's back in action here.Kaius wrote:I almost posted that it reminded me of Signs, or that it was a return to that form, but then I didn't.

There was a ton of suspense just in the way shits were framed or angled, or how long he lingered on a subject. I was on the edge of my seat for a good portion of the movie, and one scene (I can't remember which now) actually made my heart jump.LoathedVermin72 wrote:It definitely felt like a return to form stylistically. Re: Movie: Split (01-20-17)
got to see this today. Great return for MNS. I agree, the marketing was a little misleading. They only deal with 5 of the personalities here, not 23. Even the shrink was great.
And that ending...pretty freaking great.

You're talking about Filth, which I'm trying to get through right now. It's not borderline ridiculous - it's pretty much jumped that border and sprinted away from it as fast as possible.Orpheus wrote:McAvoy has chosen some really bizarre projects. Re: Movie: Split (01-20-17)
This movie is not scary and it is no masterpiece. It's compelling, though.
