Perhaps because your description sounds a lot like the ideas explored in The Founder (which as I just mentioned I'm kind of stuck on in my head), I'm going to download this one.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Concussion is severely misunderstood, and quite brilliant. It's much more than some social message movie about football injuries; it explores what happens when the American ideal collides with corrupt American reality. I found it deeply moving and profoundly tragic, but never cynical. Furthermore, Will Smith just disappears in that role. I thought he was amazing. The character feels so lived in and fully realized.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on Belly, LV. It's a cult favorite of mine.

Yeah, I actually remember you talking about it way back when. I think someone gave you shit about buying the DVD, and you defended the movie.Orpheus wrote:I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on Belly, LV. It's a cult favorite of mine.
It's an interesting film. I feel like I should love it. It is hyper stylized, and I give Hype Williams major credit for that. But, ultimately, I respect it more than I enjoy it. I think it feels massively overlong, and a bit repetitive. Nothing ever connects with me viscerally or emotionally as much as I want it to. There's a lot to admire, but it never quite jelled.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Green Room is the best of those, but I'm not a fan of any of them.tragabigzanda wrote:Taking the day off today, gonna watch a movie. Help me pick:
Green Room
John Wick
The Nice Guys (I didn't love Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, nor Iron Man 3, so this won't win unless there's a huge push from RM)

Well if you didn't like KKBB or IM3, why is it even on your list? It's basically the same thing all over again. Depends on how much you like Angry Russell Crowe and Dapper Ryan Gosling talking.tragabigzanda wrote:Taking the day off today, gonna watch a movie. Help me pick:

Some of the better parts from the trailers aren't even in the movie, that bummed me out.
Haven't seen Green Room, and you haven't seen John Wick yet? That's one you can watch and just not think too hard about.
