The Attorney General has been fired.

Quite rightly.

I hadn't paid much attention to this until reading this Washington Post summary earlier.

Her stance made her position completely untenable.

It was unquestionably a noise generation tactic, and she must have known how it would end.

But what a remarkable event. The attorney general of the United States has been fired for opposing the president's executive order.

Yeah, BiH's article suggests that she should have resigned instead.

I'm sure she wanted to provoke the firing, feeling that it was a more powerful statement.

I don't know that it is, but the whole thing is pretty wild. It's another benchmark for how far outside normal politics our footprints are right now.

People keep referencing Nixon, but even that wasn't about policy. And it was part of the story that destroyed him. And it wasn't day ten.

Personally, my problem with the majority of Spenno's posts (and by extension, the actions of white moderates in many places) is that 1) they seem to suggest that Trump is always acting in good faith, and the people opposing him are acting in bad faith and 2) many of the ideas in them are antithetical to not only my work as an educator, but to a democratic society as a whole. When I see someone espousing the ideas that:

--protest is unproductive and almost purely the product of hysteria
--young children shouldn't be aware of their political reality or engage in protest
--language doesn't matter and is superfluous to the creation and execution of laws
--elected leaders shouldn't be poised, or controlled, or professional
--it's acceptable to give one religion preferential treatment in matters of immigration
--Steve Bannon's idea of a "Judeo-Christian Economy" is acceptable

...when I see those types of things being encouraged, I have to be concerned about them. It is fine to have opposing viewpoints, but other people get to criticize them as well. For example, I'm a little curious why the actions of protesters represent hysteria and Trump/Bannon's viewpoint that America is some sort of rusted out post-capitalist hellhole does not. Their rhetoric before and after the election repeatedly presented America as a country on the brink of disaster. How is that not hysteria? Why is the benefit of the doubt being given to the Breitbart news guy in all matters and never to average, normal Americans? It just doesn't sit well with me.

i think it's becoming more clear that an international war is unlikely

but an intranational war seems increasingly likely

at least some pathetic low intensity sporadic version

i can't recall a time where the "left" was so vocal and aggressive in this country. i recall a lot of bitching during GWB but i don't recall it being as openly charged as this. more like openly cynical, perhaps

it seems inevitable that at some point, some folks that cling to their 'guns and religion' will probably dust up with the arugula eaters

and that's not going to be a happy day

and if the prez on top doesn't set a president that the violence is wrong, then we might just back door ourselves into Madmax for a few weeks or a year or something
