Lightning Bolt: the official album thread

I can't believe what I'm saying but every time I look at the album cover I find myself thinking that Lightning Bolt just might be a badass title, but the music is going to have to back that up. You can't name your album Lightning Bolt and have a weak album, you better bring it PJ!!!

Post-2003 Pearl Jam seems to be about crafting songs that compartmentalize each member's particular strengths (LISTEN TO MIKE SHRED AND ED WAIL AND MATT....DO WHATEVER IT IS THAT DRUMMERS DO WELL) instead of crafting cohesive and coherent music that is more than the sum of its parts. Given the available information, I don't expect that to change. And that's a bummer for me.

Seems like after 10 years you'd be used to this band not giving you exactly what you want.

Okay, that's fine I guess. But there's absolutely nothing interesting about your kind (that's right) coming to the forum to say stuff like this.

If you have something interesting to say or perhaps some kind of unique critique that tears the song a new asshole, I'm all for it.

If you and your kind (that's right) repeat the same tiresome ("not what I wanted") shit ad nauseum, then I'm gonna go home and bite my pillow.

if we're going to look at post-2003 pearl jam, then we've got all of S/T and Backspacer, and then there's Of The Earth, Olé, and now MYM. There's range there. I agree that production has been one issue with their last decade of work.

Yeah it's a pretty weak album title but let's face it, by self-titling their 8th album, they basically said "we're out of album titles."
