Constellation Records' 20th anniversary is this year. I'd imagine they've got some celebratory stuff planned, and they just released their first 2017 album, the aforementioned Avec le Soleil Sortant de sa Bouche. Next up on the schedule is this:
Those Who Walk Away - "First Degraded Hymn" and "First Partially Recollected Conversation"
Composer Matthew Patton's brother passed away in a plane crash. That is part of the impetus for The Infected Mass, Patton's debut release under the amorphous ensemble moniker of Those Who Walk Away. It's a work of minimalist composition and musique concrète, combining composed sections for two string ensembles, one in Winnipeg and one in Iceland (this group have worked with Sigur Rós, Jóhann Jóhannsson, and Bedroom Community), as well as choral sections for the Icelandic players, with pieces of cockpit recordings from plane crashes, field recordings from airports, and electronic processing and erasure.
Releases on March 17.

And another Constellation release, the second album from Saltland (aka Rebecca Foon of Esmerine and ex-Silver Mt. Zion), A Common Truth, out March 31. I'm intrigued by this one because I adored the first album from 2013 for a while, but have found it in diminished standing since. The preview track, "I Only Wish This for You," makes me feel kind of cautious about it, as it's not as strong as I would like.

This is cool, similar to much of the slightly grungey, wistful guitar, female vox stuff that I've enjoyed over the past year or two (Camp Cope, Bully, Chastity Belt etc).chewm wrote:I've been enjoying this

I definitely see that, especially the Chastity Belt comparison.Higgs wrote:This is cool, similar to much of the slightly grungey, wistful guitar, female vox stuff that I've enjoyed over the past year or two (Camp Cope, Bully, Chastity Belt etc).chewm wrote:I've been enjoying this

This album feels slightly less grungey and more post-punk for me.

Yep, certainly lots of post punk. Having listenned to the album now I hear the variety across the tunes which is something I often enjoy. Apart from the opener which I don't care for I'm a fan of all the rest.
"No Big bang" would be my favourite I'd say, but lots to like here.

Re: 2016 Sucks; Can We Skip to 2017? (The Albums of 2017 Thr
I came across the album "Music for Aircooled Motoring" by Australian Testing Labs which sounds interesting (or possibly stupid, depending on your pov I guess).
https://atlinc.bandcamp.com/releases
Music designed to cope with the noise of motoring in the VW Type 2 and Type 25 Transporter.
Recordings of highway driving were made inside the cab of a 1981 VW T25 Kombi travelling at 80kmh and used to test, compose and mix music that could be heard above or in harmony with the noise of the road and the air-cooled engine.
The frequencies used have been carefully selected and rigorously road tested and when played in a moving van, will blend with the ambient sound of the vehicle and create a unique and harmonious driving experience. As each van will differ slightly, so then each user’s experience will differ accordingly, making this a truly unique pleasure for each driver or passenger.
Here's Moto Moto which I quite enjoyed.
