Re: Film: The Batman (Nolan) 20Never
So, now we've learned that the most recent draft of the script has Chris Terrio's name on it. No Affleck. No Geof Johns.
Affleck told Kimmel last week that he would direct The Batman as long as he liked the script. Now he ain't directing it anymore. And it looks like we know exactly why. His name is not on the most recent draft. They aren't using his script. He doesn't like it. So he pulled out of directing.
Of course Affleck and Terrio wrote Argo together. So they have a relationship. Was Terrio brought in to save the script? Was he the compromise? Did Affleck agree to a new writer as long as it was someone he trusted? Did Terrio just to a polish/revision of the original Affleck/Johns script?
Weird shit going down at DC division of WB Entertainment. Weird shit.

Re: Film: The Batman (Nolan) 20Never
Yesterday, the guy I know who works in the industry said:
And now he's not writing or directing. I can't imagine he'll drop out of the film, though. Surely, he's got a contract. Would he really violate that and step out of the role? JL is almost wrapped filming and prepping for post. This would be kind of major if it ends up being true.I heard yesterday from a decent source that Affleck is considering dropping out altogether - no further screenplay work, no directing, no acting on The Batman.
I think it's probably overreaction because his latest film lost $95 million dollars and he's stressed out over that and the whole Batman fiasco but as of this week, it's a possibility he bails.

The first step DC needs to do once this whole thing falls apart is build off the CW shows. Which they will never do.

I wouldn't be surprised. Affleck has been a total pussy about all this since the beginning.durdencommatyler wrote:Yesterday, the guy I know who works in the industry said:

Seriously. Can you imagine the Kevin Smith movie we'd get out of it?LoathedVermin72 wrote:Jesus Christ nolowlight79 wrote:The first step DC needs to do once this whole thing falls apart is build off the CW shows. Which they will never do.

I'm not sure I'd be opposed to a Kevin Smith superhero film.

I'm not saying I support it, either. It would depend on a lot of factors. But the idea isn't something I'd automatically turn my back on.

I know he's very self-deprecating but listening to him talk about shooting on the TV shows makes me wonder what he actually does anyway anymore.

I don't watch his shows or listen to his podcasts. Maybe that's why I don't hate Kevin Smith.bune wrote:I know he's very self-deprecating but listening to him talk about shooting on the TV shows makes me wonder what he actually does anyway anymore.

If I listened to all of them I might hate him too but I only listen to his batman podcast, smodcast with Scott, and Hollywood Babble-on with Ralph so I pretty much only get news from him.

Re: Film: The Batman (Nolan) 20Never
The Batman podcast is now basically all about geek news. It's a video first and foremost so you can watch it on youtube to see if you like it.
Smodcast has its moments, mostly because Scott is way funnier than Kevin.
HBO is an actual formatted show so if you listen to an episode and like it, they're all like that. If you don't like it, hey, they're still all like that.
Of the three, Batman is the most informative as they go over a lot of geek news. The other guy on that is Marc Bernardin, Film editor for the Los Angeles Times, and he knows his shit. So when I said the other day that I love hearing people talk about movies, I really love this podcast. Smodcast is just there for laughs. HBO is the hardest to recommend as it's more like a radio show which makes sense as Ralph Garmin of KROQ is the other host.
I'd have to say Batman is my first recommendation, then HBO, then Smodcast.
EDIT: I take that back:

I wonder what happens to the DCEU if he backs out of this (though I suspect he won't).
More interesting, I think, is what happens if the lego batman movie (which looks great!) is more successful than this. Will we have passed the high water mark of dark brooding tortured heroes?

I don't think a recast wold matter much. I like Affleck in the role, he might be my favorite, but there's been a long history of different guys playing that character. The fact that they can't come up with a script is mind boggling though. They have 80 years of stories to adapt or at least use as a starting point. I could probably write a script this weekend with LV and Joey that would make a billion. It should be really difficult to make a bad Batman movie.

Re: Film: The Batman (Nolan) 20Never
Im not sure if he can get out of that contract that easily...i mean, JL is out this year and thats going to be massive...and Affleck already did 3 movies as Batman...If he is out, thats going to be a really hard blow to this DCU.
Im still surprised on how weird everything is around these movies....For example, SS reshoots and edition, The Flash losing directors, those weird rumors about WW...is really weird.
Of course Ben might be just really tired and might want another hand at the director´s chair, and thats understandable too.

yeah not wanting to have to write AND direct AND star is pretty understandable. it would really need to be a passion project to be worth that

Especially when you're under the impression you'll have a great degree of control over the project and then WB turns around and starts pulling back on that promise again and again. Which is exactly what the rumors are saying is happening. WB needs to get out of their artists' ways. Let these people make their films. You hired them for what they bring to the table. Stop interfering on every level.stip wrote:yeah not wanting to have to write AND direct AND star is pretty understandable. it would really need to be a passion project to be worth that
Affleck's loss is a big one, I think. I'd much rather see him direct a Batman film than act in one. But either way, if he's just a "hired hand" now, WB has really fucked this up. And like Baba said, it's pretty difficult to fuck up The Batman.
