compression nerds, let's see some comparisons to last two albums please.
Yes, please. It seems to sound better to me on my headphones. But maybe that's the honeymoon talking.
Sounds good to me on headphones but I'm nowhere near as nerdy about sound as some people on here. Nothing is as distracting as S/T volume-wise. That album would distort if it was loud. This doesn't, at least not in my headphones.
Here's what I see:

That surprises me. I'm not sure why it sounds better to me. But then I haven't listened to an album through yet so...
It shouldn't surprise you. Self Titled more compressed than that.

I really like the tune. Have they done better songs? Of course. Have they done worse. Definately. But really, it's all in how a person feels about a song. I've read through page upon page here, and it's always interesting how people react to different songs. I certainly don't agree with some comments, but I also have to realize it's personal taste. For me...this song feels good. It's not about perfection anymore, it's purely about enjoyment, and I enjoy this. To what level exactly? extremely tough to say so early on, but I'm enjoying more so than the first single on the last 4 albums. Does that mean the other singles sucked....no, of course not, they all have their strengths, and their weaknesses. But at this point in my life, and in my favorite band's career, I'm just thankful they're still around AND putting out VERY listenable music. I'm happy that I got to hear this thing, and I'm happy we'll all get to hear more, cause really.....that's what it's all about.

Always remember folks.....it's STILL a good day to be a Pearl Jam fan.

Holy shit balls. This thread has grown 50 pages since I last posted yesterday afternoon. Is it 2004 in here or something?

Eddie's voice sounds great in this mix. Digging the "sweetener" they're using-- that subtle delay. In fact I like the mix overall. It's got some weight to it.

He does sound good, but t's not about him not being able to reach a note, it's about his lung capacity and ability to sustain a phrase. And he doesn't have that ability anymore at this point for these types of songs. So why write them??
He'll be totally out of breath and lost before this ones halfway through. Enjoy it of you see it live, can't see it being a set list regular.

He sounds like he's singing more from his chest than his head in this song... just my gut reaction.

Comatose meets Ole. Good, not great. On the positive side, it has much more teeth than anything on Backspacer. Much more reminiscent of S/T, which for me is a very good thing.

If you're gonna name your album Lightning Bolt, you better plan on bringing the rock!

Would seriously love to hear someone who really knows the ins and outs of singing to critique his performance on this track.

Not bad, I like it. Seems better produced than the last two records. I wouldn't get carried away thinking this song is any indication of how the rest of the record will sound/be approached.
