I'm not happy with these rankings, but he moved Binaural up a spot. Listening to Binaural right now. Definitely made the right call.cutuphalfdead wrote:This is a moment to be celebrated.durdencommatyler wrote:So far, I've liked all three songs since Backspacer (Ole, Of the Earth, Mind Your Manners) more than just about everything on Backspacer.

Binaural should be at least a couple of spots higher though, hopefully you feel the same after you are done listeningdurdencommatyler wrote:Listening to Binaural right now. Re: RANK THE ALBUMS
I could see it one day surpassing S/T. But I just don't think it'll ever get ahead of No Code or Vs. Now that music is coming and backspaces no longer has to bear the weight of the catalog I wonder how opinions will evolve, if at all

Re: RANK THE ALBUMS
I'm really excited to see what happens. As you know, I've always liked/defended Backspacer. But now that it's been four years, I can listen more objectively. It's not the "new" thing anymore. I find myself reaching for other albums more often. And, as much as I still really enjoy Backspacer (by no means do I think it's a bad album), it lacks something that all other Pearl Jam releases have, for me. I don't know that I realized that until I listened to them all back to back, in order.stip wrote:Now that music is coming and backspaces no longer has to bear the weight of the catalog I wonder how opinions will evolve, if at all

It's entirely possible people find more to like but still place it towards the bottom. Stiff competition.

Re: RANK THE ALBUMS
As you should. There's a lot to love about that little record. I just wonder if I don't have one foot in the "complex, moody, atmospheric" camp. It's not like that's all I want Pearl Jam to do. But I appreciate it when they wonder off the beaten path a bit. Backspacer wasn't that album. It wasn't supposed to be. I don't want to fault the album for what it isn't. Instead, I'll just look at what it is and gauge how successful it was at being that (very!) and how I respond to what it is (if I'm honest, a bit hollow).stip wrote:It's entirely possible people find more to like but still place it towards the bottom. But I'll still defend things like Johnny Guitar and Just Breathe and even Amongst The Waves to the death. I adore those songs. And I'm thrilled that Pearl Jam recorded them and that I get to listen to them whenever I want.

Re: RANK THE ALBUMS
These move around constantly. It's like ranking the Star Wars movies for me:
1. Yield (It didn't immediately go on top of the list but it is now king which it always and forever will be).
2. Vs. (The first PJ record I ever bought)
3. Vitalogy
4. Pearl Jam
5. No Code
6. Backspacer (Yes I like it better than Ten. Send me your angry hate messages).
7. Ten (Look it's obviously a classic but it's also aged the worst of any PJ record--although the BOB remix helps it).
8. Binaural
9. Riot Act
Ranking these is kind of silly. It's Pearl Jam so I love everything. I don't like MYM but I'd be shocked if I "hate" the new album (other than the title which I still think has to be a joke).

Soon you'll have it about Self Titled, and then you'll reconsider having Ten so high on the list.durdencommatyler wrote:Listening to Binaural right now. I'm going to go ahead and predict that Lightning Bolt will slot in nicely there in the 7 spot. But like Kevin Garnett said, "Anything is possible!!"

2. No Code
3. Vitalogy
4. Vs.
5. Binaural
6. Riot Act
7. Ten
8. Lightning Bolt
9. Self Titled
10. Backspacer
Man, that title looks weird in there.

Re: RANK THE ALBUMS
Not sure, but maybe
binaural (i'm thinking the most flaw for the album is a production)
riot act (just get rid of that boom guy)
vs
ten
vitalogy (very boring and simple drumming of DA)
no code
self titled (production issues)
backspacer (too polished)
yield (never been fan of)

I'm really hoping I'll get to put "Lightning Bolt" above S/T and Backspacer in my rankings. Even higher would be great but I'm trying to be realistic.
