When I first hear it though, I was over the moon for that song. That live version on Conan (or wherever) just floored me. I've soured on the thing quite a bit since. And hearing it in the context of Backspacer actually hurt it for me, I think. Though, I still think it's one of the better songs on that record, if it had just been a one off single, like Ole, I think it may have aged better for me. Maybe not. But maybe.Self wrote:Man, I do not like Got Some. Not even a little bit. Alright, maybe a little bit. Maybe not, though.durdencommatyler wrote:Yes. I was bored with this song as it felt like a backspacer b-side. So many times in this song it felt like it wanted to be Spin the Black Circle but it just isn't quick or raw enough.

Based solely on the first time I heard each of them, I like MYM way better. STBC has grown on me quite a bit. Maybe MYM will age poorly. But based on listens on the day of release, MYM has it by a mile.Mecca wrote:I was bored with this song as it felt like a backspacer b-side. I remember Ed during interviews of Backspacer (maybe the EPK?) talking about catching lightning in a bottle in terms of writing songs. That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw the album title.stip wrote:I have a theory regarding the title, but I am on an iPad tapping with two fingers so it will have to wait

The one time I crossed my fingers, everything went to shit. I know it's just an expression, but this one time, I actually crossed my fingers... Haven't done it since. Still hoping for the best though.McParadigm wrote:I have my fingers crossed. Like I said, by itself it's not actually much of anything to me. Not offensive, not exciting, just....sort of there. But context could really sell it well.

But seriously, spin the black circle makes me want to work out and I'm a lazy piece of shit. Mind Your Manners has a lot of guitar licks that sound like they want to be STBC. Listen; it's there. This isn't a comparison of the merits of the songs, just that I hear the similarities and MYM falls short in what STBC did that what I felt made it strong.

Man, I can't process the fact that some folks are saying this is better than STBC. It's such a neutered, MOR approximation of 80s punk. It could've been great had they gone for a more unhinged studio performance. What we ended up with is just so bland.
