I know this is very cynical of me, but I can't help but think that some people are kind of forcing themselves to like this song. I think if you presented this same song with a different singer (say a Bob Mould or a Greg? Graffin) to a bunch of Pearl Jam fans, most of them would go "meh."

Just pre-ordered the vinyl AND CD and postage to Oz was only $5.85 (I think I read someone was charge $8 for US shipping of the CD alone?!)

Plus the MYM single is available for immediate download in FLAC (and mp3, ALAC, WAV). Pearl Jam, you're doing it right :nice:
I just spent $21.00 on a cd...wtf
this better be good
I think i spent $50 or so on the cd and the vinyl, and Im pretty sure it will be good

"Lightning Bolt" is a fucking stupid album title. There, I explained it.
I told my wife, before it was 100% confirmed, that it looked like the album would be called Lightning Bolt. I said, "which is sort of a terrible title by itself." And she kinda got frustrated. I asked her what I said. She said, "I don't know. I just don't understand why that's a bad title. What's a good title?" I gave her some examples. She rolled her eyes at me and said, "The title's fine."

Maybe they'll cover this on the album. Very strangely I can hear it in my head already, rocked up with Eddie wailing.

You could be right. But I'm not one of those people. Listen, it's taken me four years to admit this... but that's exactly what I did with Backspacer. I wanted to like it so badly that I just decided to like it no matter what. It's only recently that I've realized what I did and am willing to admit it.

This song though, I really love it. It's not end-all, be-all. It's not maybe top tier, all time best, Pearl Jam. But it's hitting the sweet spot for me. Without knowing it, it's exactly what I wanted from this band. It's been a while since they were able to do that for me.

Well...the alternative to this is that a lot of us really like it!

I'm honest enough with myself to know when I'm trying to help along the enjoyment of a song. This isn't one of those times (for me). I have played it umpteen times since I downloaded it and it keeps getting better (for me).

I'm more upset that I have to wait til October to add to it. That said...it will force me to digest the song fully and completely which is good in its own way and kind of similar to years ago for me.

Without wanting to sound like a complete fan boy, but in one way or another I've loved every album these guys have put out for one reason or another - they all communicate in different ways. I still really like Backspacer for what it is, and I'm sure I'll love the new album too. Completely digging the single, and can't wait for my vinyl to arrive!

As for the title - don't care, as long as the content is good! To me Mind Your Manners sounded like a crap song title, but they rock the fuck out of that song!

I'll admit that, when the positive response was way more than I could fathom it being, I did kind of go "I sure hope there are a lot more 80's hardcore fans on the board, spending their nights drooling over New Day Rising and Suffer, than I ever realized. Because the only alternative scenario I can think of is...."
