Its no STBC, lets not get crazy. I think its a more successful pop-punk thing than Backspacer was, though. STBC is by far my least favorite song on Vitalogy, so much so it is the only track I skip. Just a twenty something screaming about fucking records. I don't find MYM bland at all. It's not changing the world but the performance is tight and well executed. Ed sounds good and staying in areas he should and I love the lyrics. I'm not versed in too much 80s punk so I could care less if it is "neutered". I think this is the main issue I've got it. It's a bit less the song than how they did it. I personally wouldn't go as far as to say it's neutered but that's barking up the right tree. I'm not listening with a trained musical ear, mind you. And I'm not holding either of them up against other songs of the same/similar genre. I'm looking at each of them in a vacuum. Lyrically, the subject matter is more interesting to me in MYM. I love how much is happening in the song. It moves and shifts it very appealing ways, I think. I love the way Ed sounds.
