As increasingly obscure as my PJ tastes get over the years, "Given to Fly" will always be my #1. The studio version of that song never fails to take me someplace special.

It's cooled for me over the years but that's a song like SOLAT or Even Flow that, for a long time, was just the very best - so I'll always have a special place in my heart for it.

It's also, alongside Alive and Corduroy, one of those songs that I think best encapsulates what this band is about.

There's something about the combination of the guitar tones and Jack's drumming in the studio version of "GTF" that's just wonderfully evocative for me, really summing up that wide-open-spaces, endless-horizons, etc. feel of "Yield" without getting overly precious or hippie-ish about it. When the song "breaks," Eddie's voice feels like that first deep breath you get after you've been holding it underwater for a while -- it's an almost physical feeling in your chest. Very few songs from my adolescent years can tap into the same feelings I first had for them without also calling in the nostalgia squad. And while I do have a lot of great memories associated with this song, they're something different entirely; the music gets me there on its own, same as it always did.

Why "what the fuck"?

That isn't my favorite 10 songs (I put that list on page one of this thread). This set of 10 is just a playlist that I really like. It has a really nice flow. It features some popular songs and some deep cuts. It is helping me get a better appreciation for some songs that I don't necessarily love (Get Right, All or None). And it has a few of my all time favorites.
