I would agree with the Save You comparison more so but I can understand why STBC was mentioned.

MYM > Fixer > WWS, so they're moving in the right direction.

This, to me, is the best of the post-Riot Act punkier songs - it sounds like they're struck a nice balance between Avacado and Backspacer. I'm going to go ahead and raise my expectations for the next record to cautiously optimistic.

I was actually thinking about what the Pearl Jam bucket list must be like, today. Apparently "make an album called Riot Act" and "make an album that totally fits the title Riot Act" were on separate pieces of paper, so.

I really do like the way Ed sings this. Sounds much less strained than he did on Avacado, but still maintains the intensity that I think was lacking a bit from the rockers on Backspacer.

Is MYM better than Got Some?

I too am cautiously optimistic. I real like Ed's delivery and lyrical content...what I can make out.

I'm more concerned about the ballads/"epic" songs on Light'n Bolt.

"I like it" sums it up right now for me without having some proper distance to go above or below that.

But regardless of all the theorizing, you either get in a car, turn this thing the fuck up and it moves you or it doesn't.

On that pass/fail scale, it's an absolute pass.

Oh, absolutely. I was never in love with Got Some from the start and it's turned into a skip for me.

How many lead singles would make your top 10, though?

If this is the best song on the album, obviously it will be a disappointment, but what are the chances of that?

I like it better than Got Some as well. It's got something that Got Some just didn't.

I think it's Backspacer with a little more meat on the bone. Interested to see what's next.
Feeling the same.

I wish the lighter parts of MYM were a little more interesting (think poor girl) or a little darker.
Yeah it sounds too...uplifting compared to what he's singing about. I think. Actually I'm not entirely sure what the lyrics in the bridge are trying to say.

Oh man Eddie should have saved the lyrics from the fixers bridge (i'll dig your grave etc.) and put em in this instead, they're wasted on the fixer, they've got the same jist...i think.

I'm enjoying the production on this a lot too, it retains some of Backspacer's glossy sheen but dials it back enough to allow a few rough edges creep in: the guitars are a lot more separated in the mix, there's some momentary sparks of unrestrained feedback and I can really feel the crack of Matt's snare echoing around the room.

:nice:

I've listened to it a few times now. I like it okay but it's going to have to grow on me. Musically it's okay and you can definitely hear a punk vibe there. But vocally, well I don't think it really fits Ed today. You know they'll play it in London & Chicago next week and I'm curious to see how he pulls it off. And then compare those versions to the ones from the end of the West Coast shows in December.
