Benecio Del Toro is playing Ezra and that he's Rey's father? The theory speculates that he's a pretty dark dude and was at the Jedi Academy when Kylo attacked. Interesting if nothing else.

Actually, yeah. I've seen that in several times. It's interesting and I don't hate it on paper. But I have some trepidation given lack of general knowledge regarding that character. But, yeah, I think it could be cool.

Simply put, I think Benicio Del Toro is going to be Rey’s father. … But that’s not to say Del Toro will be playing a new character. I think he’s playing an adult Ezra Bridger (from the Rebels TV show). He’d be about the right age, and there have been theories that Rebels will end with Ezra (and Kanan if he’s still alive) joining Luke’s new Jedi Academy. But then why was she left on Jakku?

That would mean Ezra and Kanan are still a part of the universe all the way through Rotj ? sounds dumb.

There is zero chance Kanan survives Rebels. I don't think he's alive during Rogue One. Ezra? I have no idea. They could do something tricky with him but if I was going to put money down, I'd bet he'll also die by the Rebels series finale. Benicio being Ezra is interesting and it COULD work. But it feels weird for a lot of reasons. If nothing else, Benicio has such a unique voice. Unless they give him some sort of breathing/vocal mechanization or something, it'll be really difficult to suspend disbelief. Then there's all the tie-in explanations. How do you explain all of this to someone who has never seen Rebels. Then there's the idea of her being Rey's father which is probably the most unrealistic part of the theory given what Daisy has said about the characters parentage.

If Benicio is going to be a character we already know from the cartoons, I really hope it's Cad Bane.

They aren't even pretending to wrap his story up.

Ezra going bad via killing kanan is the only way forward.

Yet it looks like we see Ezra begging obi wan to come back in rebels.

They've been very clear that Ep. I-IX are the "Skywalker Saga." No way they shoehorn Rebels into this as heavy handed as you guys are predicting.

That's a fair point. But as we have seen they can do that in such a way that the general public not feeling like they've missed something and simultaneously have hardcore fans delighted they've crossed threads and characters.

This I totally agree with. But in R1 they are small, inconsequential references. Saw is the only one that affects the plot. And he's a minor character affecting characters that are about to die. Doing what these theories are talking about is a GIANT leap from that. They'll slowly do these things, they aren't going to go all in for The Last Jedi, just the second film since the rebirth of the franchise.

We already have Ezra finding obi wan in rebels by the looks of things. Obi wan knows he isn't the last or only Jedi anyways. I just Hinn these episodes will be laying groundwork to explain this theory.

I'd much prefer Luke being her father but if not Ezra is a fine theory.

Sure. There are ways to do this, absolutely. Especially if it's a slow reveal. Like he has a different name, a Darth title perhaps. And it's slowly revealed his real name is Ezra. Whatever. But because Daisy Ridley has said that she thought Rey's parentage was clear after watching The Force Awakens, I have to think Disney/Lucasfilm are not going that direction with this character. That's the only reason I'm discounting the father stuff. Introducing Benicio as adult Ezra makes a lot more sense if he isn't tied to Rey. It isn't as fundamentally important that one watches Rebels that way.

I think individual parts of this theory are possible to probable. But I don't think they make as much sense when put together as one theory.
