But vocally, well I don't think it really fits Ed today. You know they'll play it in London & Chicago next week and I'm curious to see how he pulls it off. And then compare those versions to the ones from the end of the West Coast shows in December.
This has been said a couple time but really give gives himself alot of breaks to collect himself. There are only a couple parts where I think he'll get winded.

:nice:
I'll agree with that for the most part.

Eddie's made them a punk band. That's not when they are at their best. BOO.

I'm not sure. It's just something Ed's felt compelled to yell about. I don't really look much into the lyrics anymore, Ed stopped making sense when he ceased mumbling.

I like this song. It reminds me of Black Flag & Motorhead. It's got a nastiness to it that's been missing from Pearl Jam for quite some time. I don't think it's gonna burn up the charts, or be anyones favourite song...but I can definitely see myself blasting this one on the car stereo and rocking out to it when the mood fits.

This could be a monster song live too...It's got some nice guitar interchange between Stone & Mike, and Matt and Jeff have a good little thing going as well. Most importantly....Eddie doesn't sound strained and has actually found a way to sing a punk song with his current limitations.

Overall 3/5

It does what a first single should do...It has my attention and makes me want to hear the rest of the record.

I've got some Pearl Jam that's better than that.

I just got a good listen on headphones and was going to say the same thing. Camerons drums at the beginning are most noticeable with this. You can hear some of the natural reverb of the room there.

Nice :nice:

They're comparable in that they're upbeat punk rock songs, except one is exciting and energetic and the other one sounds like The Offspring.

You think everything sounds like the offspring. You should maybe stop listening to so much offspring. Or listen more and get it out of your system. Maybe....

Yeah, the snare sound is really great. Much more natural than Backspacer. :nice:

It's probably his long standing guilt for not living up to Fugazi (in his mind anyway).

BTW I don't necessarily have a problem with short "punk" PJ songs. I like STBC. I like Brain of J a lot. I like Save You. I even like Comatose. Because those are good songs.

MYM is not a good song.

The energy and "anger" in it feels totally forced to me. Artificial.

Matt´s drumming is pretty good here, and the intro sound likes something he could write...but i was surprised on how the chorus and bridge reminded me of Bad Religion. I dont know why, but this might be their best punk song in a while.
I can hear those STBC comparisons, but i feel its more similar to Comatose and DTE, specially in Ed´s vocal delivery..
Yeah he sounds awesome, his baritone is deep enough, he should sing like this more often.
And Mike´s solo is pretty amazing.

If this is the most commercial sounding song on the record (which one would assume since its the lead single) then we're in for a fucking good record.

Matt's drumming is far and away the best part.

Ed's voice sounds strained and forced to me.

Mike's solo is just OK to me. It feels like take 1 or 2. You can do better Mikey!

Strained? I think he sounds pretty good, he is singing in a deep register than in, lets say Gonna see my friend or got some, and it suits him better. He should do this more often.

As for Mike, what he does is exactly what the song needs. Its almost like an anti-solo, something this type of song needs, and his delivery is perfect.

Same. This is the best Ed's sounded on this style of song in a long time. I do agree on the solo though. Not doing too much for me. I like how it comes in, but it really just sounds like Comatos's solo.

Anti-solo? It's the most "FUCK YEAH GUITAR SOLO!" moment McCready's added to a Pearl Jam record in years.
