Chaffetz offered no evidence that attendees were paid to be there.

Whatever the cause or eventual effect, there has absolutely been a measurable decrease in support for the dismantling of the ACA among Republican voters, and a broad increase in favorability for the ACA among independents since the election. Which is exactly why I think the new tactic will be to use other measures to undermine its ability to succeed (i.e. the pulling of PSAs) and then turn around to say "see, we told you it would never work."

Not really because of the policy being enacted and the various controversies surrounding the Trump family and the cabinet, though that in and of itself is all frightening, but because as McP noted several posts ago, it's hard for everyone to keep up.

I'm afraid that the legitimate Resist movement will either run out of steam too quickly or that the myriad of protests will lose all meaning after week 6 or 7.

Mostly, yes. But even that should be alarming to Republicans...as should all these demonstrations. Lack of fundraising and lack of motivating message were exactly the problems non-presidential candidate democrats faced the last few cycles. Historically, when they managed to have both they tend to win quite a lot of seats.

That, and the smokescreen the national story is providing to state governments. A lot is going on that is getting insufficient press. South Dakota's ethics law mess is a great example of this, but also:

While Republicans in Washington appear flummoxed by the complexities of one-party rule, struggling with issues from repealing the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare, to paying for President Trump’s promised wall on the Mexican border, rising party leaders in the states seem far more at ease and assertive. Republicans have top-to-bottom control in 25 states now, holding both the governorship and the entire legislature, and Republican lawmakers are acting with lightning speed to enact longstanding conservative priorities.

In states from New England to the Midwest and across the South, conservative lawmakers have introduced or enacted legislation to erode union powers and abortion rights, loosen gun regulations, expand school-choice programs and slash taxes and spending.

Acting fastest at the moment, though, are four states where Republicans won total control of the government only in November. In addition to Kentucky, Missouri and New Hampshire became one-party states with the election of Republican governors, and Republicans in Iowa snatched away the State Senate, where Democrats had held their last grip on power.

In all four states, Republicans are racing to strip back the influence of labor unions, a key Democratic constituency.
