Royalty Question
Maybe someone knows the answer to this.
When a song is licensed for a soundtrack, are royalties still paid to songwriters, publishers, etc... based on sales of that record with song on it?

Re: Royalty Question
Do ticket sales for the movie have an effect on royalties owed to artist for a song that's in the movie, but might or might not be on a soundtrack if one exists?

Re: Royalty Question
Yes, that is exactly what I meant.tragabigzanda wrote:By "sales of that record," do you mean the movie/show soundtrack? Short answer is yes. If it's a previously existing song, it is usually retitled for royalty tracking purposes (so "Yellow Ledbetter" is registered with ASCAP as "Yellow Ledbetter - Friends Finale" or something like that). I worked in music licensing for a while and explain the mechanics in greater detail in a thread somewhere on RM.
Example: State of Love and Trust on the Singles soundtrack. When I buy my remastered version of this record, even tho a fee has been paid to include SOLAT, do the appropriate people still get royalties for that song?

how are music royalties handled in Native American cultures?
