I ran for president to present the citizens of our country. I am here to change the broken system so it serves their families and their communities well. I am talking -- and really talking on this very entrenched power structure, and what we're doing is we're talking about the power structure; we're talking about its entrenchment. As a result, the media is going through what they have to go through too often times distort - not all the time - and some of the media is fantastic, I have to say - they're honest and fantastic.
No tv or streaming access at work. And I prefer to read transcripts for this kind of thing.
When you read Trump's responses, do you do it in his voice in your head?
It's like reading closed captioning for live television where people are rapidly talking over one another.

He literally says "I didn't like Mike Pence finding out."
Because when I looked at the information, I said, "I don't think he did anything wrong; if anything, he did something right." He was coming into office. He looked at the information. He said, "Huh, that's fine." That's what they're supposed to do. They're supposed to -- he didn't just call Russia. He called and spoke to both ways, I think there were 30-some-odd countries. He's doing the job.
Just because something is attractive to Trump's base doesn't mean the press conference was not 75 minutes of straight-up WTF. Those two things can both be true.
Although, if I were Trump I would be worried about the need to expand beyond your base. I think it's a given that he needs to do better next time than he did last time, because I'm not sure it's possible for the Democrats to run a more divisive and tarnished candidate than they did last time.

He didn't need to expand beyond his base during the election. The middle came to him. That's something many on the Left can't understand. I think it's a deep psychological blind spot.
The Left seems to eternally overestimate it's support from the middle and relies on deeply flawed polling data. I wouldn't take anything as a given anymore.

Without wasting time on a debate about polling that has been repeatedly covered, Trump was in fact polling well with independents (beating Clinton) in most polls leading up to the election. And sure enough they helped him win in key districts, so the polling data on the subject was indeed predictive.
Now, he's historically low...not just in his low approval, but especially in the percentage of independents claiming high disapproval, a stance independents rarely take on anything.
So Samantha Bee just said that Paul Ryan would be the one expected to draw up articles of impeachment, should we get there. So does that mean there would have to be a majority in the house pushing for impeachment, or is it more about the amount of pressure (not necessarily a majority, but enough noise that he basically has to relent)?
