tragabigzanda wrote:So Samantha Bee just said that Paul Ryan would be the one expected to draw up articles of impeachment, should we get there. So does that mean there would have to be a majority in the house pushing for impeachment, or is it more about the amount of pressure (not necessarily a majority, but enough noise that he basically has to relent)?
Basically it means nobody is getting impeached for 2 years despite all the hoopla.

Paul Ryan might do it if there's dirt on both Trump and Pence.

I think Trump will bail before he is impeached. Guy is losing whatever marbles he has left.

It would be pretty epic if he managed to become president.

Any impeachment would be a sign of weakness though. It's not like democrats would suddenly let up if Trump was out. And their base would crucify them. Just let Trump take all the heat while they get what they want. They're in the driver's seat.

If this russian thing goes much deeper the entire party could risk becoming traitors if they dont do something about something.

Yeah I agree. The only way I see the GOP going through with impeachment if things are so bad with trump going into the 2018 elections that they think the only way to save face (and save some seats) is to finally go after him.

But they'd get hammered in the sub-Federal elections, for supporting Trump in the first place. At this point it really feels like they're playing a very high-risk gain: pray to god that no "magic bullet" revelations come to light about Trump, and hope they can pass their agenda; or risk everything on the insane man and his cabinet of monsters they brought into the White House. The odds on the former scenario seem really low right now.

They are probably shocked they are in power in the first place. The Republican party looked like it was in major trouble before the election, now they have control of everything. Maybe they have resigned themselves to being on borrowed time now, and are just trying to pass everything they can while they can. The party in power usually loses in midterms anyway.

I wonder if our benevolent and in-no-way-terrifying spy agencies are holding on to the real dirt for a couple of years (or until something else changes).

I generally assume that all information is held until it's to the greatest benefit of the holder to release that information (at least where gov't is concerned).

Well I say they will lose, but then again two years is a long time. Guilt-ridden, out of touch "progressivism" will do everything they can to sabotage that. See pewdiepie.
