Sounds like a blast. I'll be out dancing while you sit there being embarrassed for me!

The same way I do anything while I know I'm being judged: booze.

Fugazi used to play free shows here in DC at one of the public parks in the 90s. It was a pretty cool and diverse environment and those shows helped me get into alternative music in high school and away from the Top 40 stuff.

I am liking MYM more than I did Fixer after 10 or so listens, so I consider that progress from PJ.

hey, I actually go and dance because there's nothing else to do anyway, especially since I don't drink

but I don't let that fool me into thinking this music isn't absolute garbage

Last night after several listens I decided fixer was a better song than this.
It's not trying to be anything other than a pop song/crowd interaction song.

MYM has all sorts of affectations which I'm having trouble warming to, though I do think its a good song.

Well this is problematic. Clearly my truth is that the music is good, and your truth is that the music is garbage. If only there was a way in which our truths could coexist-- some kind of system of subjective appreciation. Alas, that is impossible, and now we must duel to the death.

Thing is, he is genuinely just cooler than us. Sees it for what it is and I'm on board.

As long as I get to choose the duel music.

I just think Fixer and WWS were better songs, but I like this one fine, too.

Of the last 8 singles (the ones I can remember my reaction to) I would rank them like this (my immediate response)

1. World Wide Suicide
2. Given To Fly
3. The Fixer
4. Mind Your Manners
5. I Am Mine
6. Spin the Black Circle
7. Nothing As it Seem
8. Who You Are

I'm not sure positive about 6-8

You're ranking it above I am mine?
Thought you really liked that one? I'm probably wrong.
I would have a very different list.

Hey that's a cool idea for a thread. Do it stip.

I'm digging the references of the title and the artwork thus far. Don't think ill ever be happy with the title "Lightning Bolt" though.

Well. I'm excited for the album as both Ole and MYM are a new step for PJ and it seems that Ed is fired up. I'm excited because more often than not the first single is not indicative of the album as a whole. But mostly I'm excited for it as I have liked every album PJ has released.

But this is awful. MYM is a poor BSide riff that should have barely made it to a Xmas single. The riff is bad Motörhead. The solo is ugly, tone awful. Lyrics are random but at least Ed's fired up about something/anything. The end vocals are so embarrassing that I am ashamed to listen to it. Even the artwork smacks of BR.

But given that I have invested so much time with these guys I'll probably keep spinning this daily for awhile. If it ever clicks I'll let you know but this LB may be retracked Day One.

Mostly, I love what Punk did to hundreds of genius songwriters that were wasting away in their bedrooms wondering what to do with their lives! The punk elements that have seeped into rock music and folkers alike have created some of my favorite music of all time.

Iggy and the Stooges are great. Husker Du/anything Bob Mould is fantastic and of course my favorite post-punk heros The Replacements.
