Backspacer would have been a nice EP:
GSMF
Fixer
Johnny Guitar
Supersonic
Speed of Sound
Force of Nature
Actually that doesnt look all that good. I suppose you'd have to throw on the two ed solo tracks!
I
Supersonic has no aspirations and thus cannot disappoint.

Re: Mind Your Manners
Listened to it again this morning and Im still really hearing early metallica in the music, though you can here a lot of punk and British metal influences in their early stuff, so its not far off from punk. But i would say after the intro it kicks into early metallica.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:I kinda hear motorbreath or some of the covers metallica did in the early days in the musicdurdencommatyler wrote:And it's got a real crunchy, almost metal sound on the front. Is 'punk' the best way to describe it?
Maybe its pj taking something back in exchange for metallica ripping off why go on their last album
Then what ever you wanna call this section
self-realized and metaphysically redeemed, may not live another life, may not solve a mystery, right around the corner, could be bigger than ourselves, we could will it to the sky, or we could something else
I hear bad religion
Then at the end i definitely hear motorhead like many are saying it sounds like.
So Im really loving this song, but i love early metallica, bad religion and motorhead, so i guess it makes sense

Ya this is borderline crazy. It needs Amongst The Waves, The End, and lets replace Supersonic with Got Someharmless wrote:You're gonna reject Amongst The Waves and then include Supersonic?Strat wrote:Amonst the Waves![]()

Best bit is the bridge. Outro is Motörhead with a bit of early maiden, bit of Judas Priest too.

My wife actually likes it. I'm surprised, b/c she normally likes more "arty" and more "soft" PJ, not "punky" PJ.Thejambi wrote:My fiancee just looked at me and said "Cool...STBC part 2. Re: Mind Your Manners
A lot of people seem to like to replace the phrase 'It's rubbish' with 'It has no aspirations.' It's a strange phenomena, because I would think that most songs without any aspirations usually end up pretty bad. Otherwise, why write it? Its aspirations are to be a fun punk song and it fails at even that.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:Amongst the waves wasn't totally successful but is still way better then supersonic IMOStrat wrote:harmless wrote:You're gonna reject Amongst The Waves and then include Supersonic?Strat wrote:Amonst the Waves![]()

Aw man. The whole song is cool. I love the call/response at the end. Love it. Mind you, I have hated nearly everything this band has done he past 13 years. It took me many years to like anything from Riot Act.MattA75 wrote:Really like the intro and the bridge...outro is pure cheese, and not good over the top cheese either

I instantly think this song sounds like Pearl Jam again.
Surprisingly, the lyrics are solid too!

Re: Mind Your Manners
The sense of humour in this song is often of the 'British' variety I think, i.e. understatement rather than exaggeration. "Mind your manners, that's all I'm saying", "Go to heaven, that's swell..." etc. It's snarky and sarcastic.

Re: Mind Your Manners
When we heard the snippet of MIND YOUR MANNERS that sounded really metal, I was worried. For me, that hard part mixed with the rest of the music in the song works for me. I like this song a lot. That bridge (2nd chrous?) Is really fun, and I enjoy Ed singing it with the abrupt stops.
3.5/5 from me. I like it better than Supersonic, if that helps.
Also, why is Amongst the Waves getting trashed? It's a great song!

Is this song going to suffer live with the other guys doing the back up vocals or did that work well enough on Ole?

I woke up today thinking I might have a hangover on this song. Blasted it 3x in my car, and 2x on my headphones already. Yeah, I'm really enjoying it. I hope it has some legs to it. Time will tell where this ranks for me in their lead singles.

I just realised that I accidentally typed "Pearl Jam, 'Mind Your Manners' review" into Google Maps.
