Is this a power play to win people over? This doesn't get you points in my book. If you didn't feel this way, then we have a problem.

It's just the newest in a series for team Trump. Devos gets shot down by Sessions and takes to social media. Tillerson constantly makes contrary statements. Pence practically sounds like a "things you wish Donald would say" joke account, half the time.

For a guy who keeps firing people for disloyalty, Trump seems to have the most contrarian, oppositional cabinet in recent memory.

It's a smoke screen so he can push his own self-interests across the globe. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm already convinced that anything else that does come from his presidency -- good or bad -- will be due to the will or incompetence of his cabinet.McParadigm wrote:For a guy who keeps firing people for disloyalty, Trump seems to have the most contrarian, oppositional cabinet in recent memory.

When you say it like that, it sounds pretty awesome.McParadigm wrote:For a guy who keeps firing people for disloyalty, Trump seems to have the most contrarian, oppositional cabinet in recent memory.

Richard Spencer shows up at CPAC, officials defend his being let in, officials kick him out.

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump has assigned the Department of Homeland Security, working with the Justice Department, to help build the legal case for its temporary travel ban on individuals from seven countries, a senior White House official tells CNN.
Other Trump administration sources tell CNN that this is an assignment that has caused concern among some administration intelligence officials, who see the White House charge as the politicization of intelligence -- the notion of a conclusion in search of evidence to support it after being blocked by the courts. Still others in the intelligence community disagree with the conclusion and are finding their work disparaged by their own department.

CNN: FBI refused White House request to knock down recent Trump-Russia stories
Washington (CNN)The FBI rejected a recent White House request to publicly knock down media reports about communications between Donald Trump's associates and Russians known to US intelligence during the 2016 presidential campaign, multiple US officials briefed on the matter tell CNN.
White House officials had sought the help of the bureau and other agencies investigating the Russia matter to say that the reports were wrong and that there had been no contacts, the officials said. The reports of the contacts were first published by The New York Times and CNN on February 14.
The direct communications between the White House and the FBI were unusual because of decade-old restrictions on such contacts. Such a request from the White House is a violation of procedures that limit communications with the FBI on pending investigations.

I actually meant to put that in there too but was distracted by work. It is ridiculous, yes.BurtReynolds wrote:And states rights are denigrated by the left until they find themselves out of power.bune wrote:It's funny...state's rights are championed by the right until the states to something they don't like then it's all "federal rights!"

Re: The 45th POTUS - Donald J. Trump
So is this the kind of dumbass mistake you make when you build an administration of Capitol Hill rookies? Or is it intentional interference with an investigation?
Either way, it's funny that they tried this, got shut down, and then began a campaign of whining about how intelligence should be nonpartisan.

Border Patrol Agents Stop Domestic Travelers at New York Airport
Rolling Stone asked CBP to point to its statutory authority to stop and examine the identity documents of deplaning domestic passengers. The spokesman sent a link to a document titled CBP Search Authority. The document refers to CBP's authority to inspect international arrivals. Specifically, it cites 19 C.F.R. 162.6, which states, "All persons, baggage and merchandise arriving in the Customs territory of the United States from places outside thereof are liable to inspection by a CBP officer." The CBP document adds: "CBP has the authority to collect passenger name record information on all travelers entering or leaving the United States." (Emphasis added.)
Asked to clarify CBP's authority over domestic passengers, the spokesman replied that "at this time this is all I have."
