Honest question. Would this even look good? or 4k good? Unaltered originally filmed star wars from 1978 on 4k.
Hell yes. Older movies, properly handled, often look better than newer movies, IMO. Real film is a beautiful thing.
Yea, i get that absolutely. But why do you like the prequels then? :)

Just wasn't sure you could even convert such an old thing to 4k! I dont know how this shit works.
Check this out Strat!

It'll happen eventually. It's inevitable.

It's definitely gonna be a while though: http://www.thedigitalbits.com/columns/m ... 22417-0100

It really blows my mind that Lucas actually altered the original negative to create the special edition. That is just awful.

Another piece I read today had some guy from fox saying there are snippets of unaltered film in their archive. It is nuts he altered the original print but he was tinkering with it even days after its very first theatrical release.

Huh, Bill's still around?

The bigger piece of news:
Also, new 4K restoration work has been done on Disney’s Song of the South to fix certain shots previously out of alignment (because of a faulty camera used during the original photography), though no public release is currently planned. Fascinating.
Why go to that trouble otherwise?

Disney has been creating 4K masters of tons of movies and just putting them in their vault right now. I'm sure they have something up their sleeve, but they loooooove to make people wait (I believe they were the last major studio to adopt Blu-ray).

I guess it makes more sense than WB hiding stuff away in the water tower.

Project 4K77 is still aiming for a January 29th finish date for their 4K restoration of the unaltered original Star Wars. Kinda excited for this :)
