i like the phrase mind your manners in this context. I think it's clever title/line, but the vocal melody stumbles a bit in that chorus.

"Career Opportunities" is fantastic. The live version is even better:

Re: Mind Your Manners
what i really like about this section is the sense of optimistic abandon. it's joyful even though it's talking about "not knowing." those aren't easy ideas to square, and i think he's managed to do it.Coach wrote: I do dig this part:

He's basically saying we could do what we want, live life to the fullest etc right? If so then I think he's probably done it better somewhere else. It also feels a bit out of place to me, where the rest of the song is cynical and angry this bit is all uplifting.
Plus bar 'may not live another life' and 'could be bigger than ourselves' every other line is weird and clunky to me.
HOWEVER like I said they're not ruining the song for me or anything. I'm just talking for the sake of talking about pearl jam. I do wish it wasn't in there twice though, it slows the song a little.

Re: Mind Your Manners
If it really is "we could something else" (it sounds kinda muddled to me), then that's my least favourite lyric on this thing, especially since it sits so awkwardly on the music. But maybe that's the point, with a lyric like that.stupidmop wrote:self-realized and metaphysically redeemed

Re: Mind Your Manners
Cynicism, and anger without hope and direction is a dead end. These bits give the other parts of the song legitimacystupidmop wrote:self-realized and metaphysically redeemed

that might be my favorite lyric. goes along with the whole "who the hell knows" of it all. it fits.ABNorman wrote:If it really is "we could something else" (it sounds kinda muddled to me), then that's my least favourite lyric on this thing, especially since it sits so awkwardly on the music. I had leftovers last night, so my wife made me a lunch for today. Eggplant parm sandwhich.
To my surprise, she wrote "Mind your Manners!" on the brown paper bag. I am a lucky guy.

I like the idea of it, just not the execution in this case.evenslow wrote:that might be my favorite lyric. goes along with the whole "who the hell knows" of it all. it fits.ABNorman wrote:If it really is "we could something else" (it sounds kinda muddled to me), then that's my least favourite lyric on this thing, especially since it sits so awkwardly on the music. yeah but, in all fairness, darth vedder, the original RM poster, should get to hold onto his name.evenslow wrote:i already suggested this but we should have a vedder-off and winner gets to be Ed Lion with appropriate avatar.Coach wrote:I still can't believe that we now have two darth vedders on this board.
I will say that both avatars are cool, though.

It's meant to be funny and lazy, imo. Part of the humour.
