Re: What movies are you watching?
Watched Breaker Morant last night. What a wonderful and wonderfully agitating film. Great performances all 'round.
Watching "A Man Called Ove" and maybe I shouldn't have started it so soon after reading the book. The man playing Ove seems more annoyed than gruff thus far, I don't see the sweetness yet. But it's early going. The changes they've made thus far...I can see why the changed it, but as it's a Swedish film I figured it would have been easier to film the scene where Ove gets his watch back instead of what we got. Ah well.

Watched the first 25 minutes of "the killer inside me" with Casey Affleck.
We had to turn it off because it was more than my girlfriend could handle. It was pretty brutal but good lord im excited to finish it tonight without her.

Nerve.
Well, it was alright, but i was stunned on how beautiful the movie looked...it was really really well shot, full of vivid colors. Really good work.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Zac Efron gave me some unexpectedly big laughs in Bad Grandpa, which was kinda shitty and weird overall. His DeNiro impression is pretty spot-on.

Who knew translating was difficult. And in this case, literally. The subs I downloaded to go with the film were pretty good and faithful enough to the book that I ended up really liking this version as well. Then I showed my wife and son two trailers and both of those had different translations of the same scenes compared to each other AND the movie I watched. It was weird.bune wrote:Watched Breaker Morant last night. What a wonderful and wonderfully agitating film. Great performances all 'round.

I give Hollywood a year before they remake it. Probably with Tom Hanks as Ove. But then they'll cast some white people instead of Persians and make it sappy instead of beautiful. Bah.

Godard's Every Man for Himself. Sometimes, with how much I viciously hate the majority of contemporary arthouse cinema, it can be easy to forget just how inspirational, moving, illuminating, and profound the best arthouse films can be. Goddamn. What a movie.
