Bon Iver - Justin Vernon

Post by Strat »

Now that Bon Iver has made its mark and will be put behind, I am really looking forward to what Justin Vernon comes at us next with. I think he is a true genius. Unique and incredibly talented. The two Bon Iver records are two of my favorite sin the past 10 years. The things that guy can emote with that voice is pretty incredible. Easily one of the best concerts ive seen as well. His solo record from a few years back is great as well because you can get a glimpse into his talent and whats to come. I look forward to whatever he comes with next.

Love this performance:

and one of my all time favorite songs:

Blood Bank was the first song I learned to play (badly) on the guitar.

I agree in the same way that a mouthful of orange juice compliments freshly brushed teeth.

Like i was saying above, the 2nd album is good, but if it sounded more like it does live then i would appreciate it as much as the first, but its a good bit more mellow on the album

This guy sounds like something I wouldn't like, but kind of do, but can't seem to get into after all.

Nah. It's a lot more cluttered, and it doesn't have that endearing ramshackle quality of "For Emma", but I like how it turned out. The arrangements are orchestral and dynamic, they don't weigh down the songs (most of which I feel are as strong as the debut's). I see where you're coming from, but "bloated abomination" are not words I'd use to describe the album. I like it a lot. Though that last song does have that weird early-80s I-stayed-up-all-night-doing-coke-in-a-hotel-room-and-what-am-I-doing-to-myself MOR radio feel to it.

Yeah abomination is probably too strong but the bloated thing (+ some cheesiness) I can't get past, it really ruined it for me, I love his voice and it works so well when in a sparse environment.

I really like Anais Mitchell's Hadestown on which he features along with Greg? Brown, Ani DiFranco and other people.
