Re: Better Things vs. Hold On vs. Ole
Better Things is one of the more popular fan club singles in recent memory. It's fine for what it is, and I like the outro, but it's not a song I ever seek out.
There are three versions of Hold On, and I like all of them. It's not a favorite but any stretch, but it's a nice call back to my favorite era in the band's history.
I think the back half of Ole (the solo and the outro) is great, but I'm not a fan of what I have to sit through to get there. Plus they took its best moments and built Mind Your Manners, one of my favorite PJ songs, period. So on the one hand I feel like I owe it a debt. On the other hand I don't need it anymore.
Vote for Hold On

Ole in a close win to Better Things. I probably prefer the latter, but that's giving credit to The Kinks more than PJ's performance of it. Ole's an alright song with a kickass ending. I personally think Hold On is terrible; one of the worst songs from the early years, IMO. They made a good choice shelving it for the official records.

Re: Better Things vs. Hold On vs. Ole
I'd like Hold On a lot less if it was actually released back then, surrounded by vastly superior songs. But it was such a lovely surprise when it came out (especially since I had assumed I would never get anything else new from that point in history)digster wrote:Ole in a close win to Better Things. Ole is so far and away better than these other two that it's a bit difficult to wrap my head around. Is Better Things really that "popular" of a fan club single? I'm not sure I could tell you how it goes. When was the last time I listened to it? Before today... like whatever year it came out.
Ole, all day, son!

Better Things and Ole are R1'ers.
Hold On has made R2 before.

Hold On fucking blows.
Ole is the shit. Gets better the more time goes on. Shoulda been on Backspacer in the Supersonic slot.

I can't believe anyone likes Ole. Fuck that shit. I can't remember one second of Better Things. Hold On gets the vote by default and I look forward to not voting for it next round.
