I can't decide if I think "Beliebers" is objectively worse than "Jamily," or if they're equally terrible. I'd say without context "Beliebers" is way worse, but with context "Jamily" is actually way worse.Heathen wrote:To be perfectly honest with you I don't either. The "Jamily" is worse. Beliebers are 12 year old girls who will grow up and laugh at their immature selves in a couple of years. Many of the Jamily are 30 and 40 somethings that have absolutely no life outside of the band and have been this way for 20+ years. And I am sure many of them still live with their parents since they blow all of their money on Pearl Jam shit.

Yeah, that pretty much my reasoning behind why in context "Jamily" is way worse.stonefury wrote:The "Jamily" is worse. But they're also 12 year old girls. A 40 year old man infusing pearl jam lyrics into their conversation is so much worse.Heathen wrote:To be perfectly honest with you I don't either. But I don't think every fanbase does this the way Pearl Jam fans do. I don't find myself seeing/hearing U2 fans be like "I went to see if they had the new single but I still haven't found what I'm looking for," or Smiths fans being all "We'd trade bootlegs with you, but you just haven't it earned it yet, baby."Heathen wrote:ever heard of Beliebers?Lament wrote:There really isn't a fanbase on earth that does this anywhere near the level of Pearl Jam fans, is there?E.H. So when someone asks me how it's going, and I respond with "I'll ride the wave where it takes me".......that's not good?!!?bodysnatcher wrote:But they're also 12 year old girls. I still try to work the word "amongst" into conversation whenever I can. because its a stupid archaic word.

What's the problem?

"Amongst" is used all the time in British English. I use it almost daily, and it has a slightly different sense to "Among".Birds in Hell wrote:It's a perfectly normal, everyday word.BurtReynolds wrote:I still try to work the word "amongst" into conversation whenever I can. because its a stupid archaic word.

Oh, and there's also a very popular phrase in Britain: "Get amongst it." Which means get involved, have fun, and it's totally contemporary.
