Trainspotting 2.
Well, it was quite a ride. The movie is just too nostalgic about itself, but it kinda works because the characters are the ones being really really nostalgic about their past. Its beautifully shot, and the acting is pretty spot on even if its flawed.
It was nice to see these characters again.

Saw this on Netflix and told the wife we have to watch it. Looks great, and like you said weird and violent and sad but funny.VinylGuy wrote:I Dont Feel At Home In This World Anymore.
Well, pretty interesting first flick form that amazing actor that Macon Blair is...Its a mix between a crime movie, a comedy, a indie weird flick...and its violent and sad. Really sad.
Melanie Lynskey is awesome as always, is there a better actress out there? God she is a beauty. Elijah Wood is also terrific.
Watched Bad Moms because my sister (who was visiting) wanted to see it. My wife and her both MST3k'd the thing saying, "women never talk like that." "It doesn't hurt to get hit in the boob, they should have said uterus." "This movie must have been written by a guy!" (said after the girl-kissing scene.)
Ugh.

Moonlight.
I enjoyed it. Good acting throughout. However, why did he win Best Supporting Actor?

Sure, but with affirmative action points, that's more like fifteen.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I just think Mahershala Ali's performance is staggering and brilliant. And it hurts that anyone would suggest "affirmative action" was in play in any capacity. Just bums me out. Even as a joke, it bums me out. That's all. He's so fucking good.Strat wrote:Tell me why, friend. Re: What movies are you watching?
From an artistic perspective, it was a great performance in a great movie. But if you think about the politics of the Academy, you have to know that #OscarsSoWhite was at the forefront of every voter's mind. They were actively looking for non-white nominees. Whether a performance gets an award or not has nothing to do with if it was actually any good or if it was the best of the year. All it has to do with is the political machinations inside the awarding body at that moment in time. I'm not looking at that performance and saying, "It was good, but he's black so it was really good." But you can be damn sure the Academy voters were thinking along those lines.

Re: What movies are you watching?
I think if that's as true as you say, then at least one of the other actors would also have been nominated. But I won't deny that there are probably plenty of people thinking the kinds of thoughts you're expressing. The Argonaut wrote:From an artistic perspective, it was a great performance in a great movie. Still doesn't change the fact that Ali fucking killed it in Moonlight.

Watching About Time. General Hux had some bad shit happen to him, didn't he. The look on his face when he realizes that if he saves his sister he loses his daughter...and then after talking to his dad and the just "oh well, fuck her!" response when he finds out that if anything is changed, the butterfly effect changes other things so he decides to let her have her car crash.
